Baghai:

Actually, TDSB schools are underutilized - that's why the funding formula had proven to be such a problem, since the it's done on a per student basis.

If you want to see schools that are overcrowded, check out the ones with large number of portables out in the burbs.

"Doesn't matter where they come from. It's the fact that the schools in the area cannot support the increase of population.
It's probably at its peak right now, and we'll see the ripple effects of this in the near future."

Alvin's right...they've already closed many schools in this city (tdsb and tcdsb) and dozens more have the numbers to be closed tomorrow, while others are currently at capacity, forcing kids to not always be able to attend the closest school. I've heard that St. Mary's high school out in Pickering was at one time like triple overcrowded with 60 portables. My own elementary school had about 20 portables back in the late 80s...it's down to 1 portable and less than half the enrollment today. We simply cannot rebuild schools every 10 years, every time the local demographics change. They went nuts during the Metro era and severely overbuilt an unbalanced system. A new school in your Legacy area will be devoid of children in 20 years and might even be closed in 25 years. Surely having some kids walk farther to school or get rides/bussed is better than this continuous expansion?
