Another fee increase that may have fallen under the radar is parking tickets.

I just got a note from the contracted parking enforcement company we deal with at my property. Turns out City Council doubled (more or less) the fines for parking illegally on private property from $30.00 to $70.00!
Good, the cost of parking enforcement is absurdly high for how small the tickets are.

The fees seem high considering how much more economically productive patios are than parking. The tax on restaurant sales alone would earn the city more than parking revenue.

Agree w/the gist of the above; but for clarity, the City does not collect taxes off of restaurant sales.

The Scarborough Southwest by-election today. My gut is that Parthi wins, but I suspect Kevin will make it a race.

Fortunately it looks like whoever wins will be an improvement.

Kevin is too far left for the riding I think.

Given the previous opposition to bike lanes in the ward, I cannot see someone hell bent on creating them getting in. He seems like a nice guy but he is too much of an NDP Socialist for the riding.

You have a better read of the ward than I do, so that could be the case. I just know that Kevin more resources and volunteers than last year.

I’ve been told there’s an anonymous anti-Kevin flyer circulating, using his campaign colours, that’s accusing him of being pro-bike, pro-injection site, and “too downtown.”

While Suman performed well in that recent poll, unlike Parthi and Kevin, I’m not sure he has a big machine to get out the vote.

We do elect left wing councilors here but nothing along the lines of Ausma Malik or Gord Perks.

Most times we get centre left or centre right candidates like Gary Crawford or Michelle Berardinetti (who was a Liberal supporter).

The NDP is gaining a foothold but the politics the NDP support such as bike lanes, raising taxes, etc do not go over well in terms of municipal politics in the ward. For example, the idea of bike lanes on Kingston Road is not a positive one.

Transit improvements and improvements to Bluffers Park are something most people would go for.

Disagree strongly.

Would freely concede the idea is less than universally popular in the ward; though views are mixed. The BIA on Danforth is anti cycle track from what I hear, but area residents are more divided on the subject.

I'm betting Parthi wins, Suman is second, Kevin third and Malika fourth.

This has been a really ugly election. Last night an article with a bunch of anon sources smeared Suman. Parthi and Kevin have also been smeared at various times.

3 polls in: Parthi 28.29, Kevin 23.48, Anna Sid 11.97, Malika 11.33, Suman 8.84, Alamgir 5.15, Sudip Shome 4.55, Tull 1.44, etc

The results from Ward 20 seem to have stalled..
They seem to have de-stalled themselves, but are still only coming in fits and starts.

19 polls out of 58, and Parthi's 25.90 vs Kevin's 23.38. (And Anna's gone to 14.70 over Malika's 10.55. And Sudip Shome's doing pretty grim for a Gary Crawford endorsee.)
