Shouldn't a 'near miss' like this be grounds for a review of procedures and training? That person was very nearly killed or grievously wounded due to wreckless behaviour by an officer.What a gong show! Maybe some of that police budget money could be used in training?
A police officer forgets to put his car in park so the car rolls and runs over the suspect's legs! Then he jumps in the car and presses gas running over the suspect again along with a fellow police officer!
After the suspect was tased, they were clearly not a threat, there was no need for the cop behind the wheel to jump out, when three other officers were right there.

I think we need a ban on engagement with the Israel/Palestine issue at the municipal level. Toronto does not have constitutional authority to engage in foreign affairs, and the never-ending psychodrama of the middle east detracts attention from matters that are the purview of the city. It would be great if we didn't let that conflict poison everything.

I don't know how Pasternak would ever be re-elected if he wasn't able to spread FUD about Palestinians existing in Toronto and write letters to everyone pushing for bans of individuals and groups.

I've always taken that site to be nothing but clickbait. If you live in a city that odds are someone outside of your country has heard of once or twice, you're likely to be on there and you can feel loved while patting yourself on the back.
That Orlando with a nearly 15% poverty rate ranks higher than Seattle is laughable.

It's a stupid ranking. But the reality is that other than the cost of housing, Toronto is a fantastic city to live in. We have pretty much everything. So if you secured your housing more than 5-10 years ago and it's affordable for you, it's definitely a top tier city.
If you're just moving to the city at median wages for a new grad and looking at the cost to rent an apartment, it doesn't look so great all of a sudden. The cost of places like London, Paris, NY, Tokyo, but we're not in that tier.

Interesting to see how much auto thefts have returned to "normal". Saw some chatter about how the spike was largely due to some specific models of cars which were incredibly easy to get into.

I think part of it was laxity on the industrial-scale export operation through the port of Montreal to places like West Africa. There have been some major busts this year, so perhaps those networks are starting to get disrupted. Absent a huge lucrative export market, I don't think auto theft is that appealing for organized crime.

This actually happened last week in Toronto. An IDF soldier violently assaulted peaceful pro-Palestine supporters at a TMU event, as seen in the video below. The IDF soldier named Jonathan Karten put his fist through a glass window to reach protesters in another room, cutting his forearm in the process.
And how did Toronto media report on this event? I will tell you! They reported that the exact OPPOSITE had happened. The media reported that the pro-Palestine protesters "forced their way into the event venue and broke windows.
The Toronto Sun called it Toronto's "Kristallnacht"

The Toronto Star was not much better. According to the Star, which spoke to event organizers, it was the pro-Palestine supporters who broke the window and were responsible for all the mayhem.

Toronto Police released the names of the 5 persons arrested. The IDF soldier Jonathan Karten's name was not on that list. Karten lives in New York, so if Toronto police are inclined to arrest him for multiple violent assaults caught on camera, they need to start extradition proceedings. Something tells me that they are not interested in bringing this violent criminal to justice.
Thank goodness we no longer have to rely on "mainstream media" to tell us the truth. We can find the truth ourselves online. We can see with our own eyes what actually happened.
EDIT: I just sent an email to the writers of the Toronto Star report telling them they need to correct their report, as well they need to ask Toronto Police why they did not arrest this violent IDF soldier for multiple assaults. Toronto police arrested 5 of the peaceful protesters, who, at worst, were guilty of trespassing, while letting a violent thug go free?

Depends on your definition of crime. I literally see a shoplifter pretty much every time I go to the Dollarama on Front E.

It does not depend on your definition of crime. The stated fact is that the overall crime rate, and a range of different crimes have declined significantly in Toronto in the last year or two, this is fact.
Yes, some types of crime are either holding steady or up somewhat. Shoplifting is likely chief among these, along with porch piracy. That's not ok, its in need of attention, but it doesn't alter the fact that crime is down.

lol I just got back from Union Station and saw a crazy junkie openly steal a box from the Laduree cart and run away and then sit on the floor of the subway station opening it up while screaming to himself. No security ever pulled up.
