Cost.

Dan
This is about the same cost as the current Danforth Extension and Eglinton West buried. The province should pay for this
Eglinton makes some sense to be an LRT. Finch West also does. But, when you have a partial line of one technology and then force a transfer to another, it just doesn't make sense. It is the SRT all over again.
I agree. Just rezone Sheppard East to increase density.

Is there any viable way to reduce the costs here without hacking in Central Scarborough the the exiting Sheppard stub?

If no, then the subway will be rightfully extended to Malvern.
They're going to have to drop the sheppard mccowan hub to do that. Terminate both at STC.

They should just extend it and get it over with. It's time to move on.
TTC's subway network is "complete" once the following are in place:
- RL/OL to or north of Sheppard
- RL/OL back up to Bloor.
- Yonge to Richmond Hill
- Eglinton to Pearson.
- Sheppard to STC/McCowan.
- Sheppard to Sheppard West.

Maybe then they'll start on a light rail transit network. Starting with the Jane LRT.

Bloor-Danforth to Square One, says hello!

Also RL/OL (West) should go to Mount Dennis or Weston ultimately.

Jane LRT will never happen as the whole thing has to be tunneled from Bloor to Wilson, if I'm remembering the proposal correctly.

Once the Crosstown and Finch West LRTs are complete, the number of through-trips from Pioneer to Bloor will diminish as the majority of people will either alight at Finch or Mt Dennis.

...the Jane LRT will be needed before the start of the 22nd century. Along with more rapid transit (both heavy and light rail), based on population increases.

With just a 26% population increase in just Toronto by 2041. It'll be even higher by the end of the 21st century. We'll have to get the people out of their cars, especially if there is no more room for single-occupant automobiles.

Maybe not Square One, but I definitely do think there is room for an extension to Sherway Gardens and/or Dixie GO.
