Construction starting on the new Edmonton-Strathcona County Footbridge​

News media are invited to join Mayor Amarjeet Sohi, Strathcona County Acting Mayor Corey-Ann Hartwick, River Valley Alliance executive director Kristine Archibald and Métis Nation of Alberta Region 4 President Alfred L’Hirondelle at a sod turning event for the Edmonton-Strathcona County Footbridge.

Date: Wednesday, June 7
Time: 12:15 p.m.
Location: Township Road 540. The event will be held on the east/Strathcona County side of the river. Parking is available on the north side of Township Road 540 directly prior to the event location. For GPS instructions, set destination as Riverside Nature Trail. Map

Just wished they did not intend to close the quarry loop trail for a couple of years. One on the nicer cycling trails in the valley.
 
The dinosaur exhibit from the mid-90s was either foreshadowing or just plain mean.
 
I see this urban national park initiative seems to be moving along.


Supporting arguments seem to surround accessibility, tourism, and ecological protection. I am yet to be convinced if the benefits are there, or maybe it is just a program used in the name of getting federal dollars for river valley initiatives like touch the water. Not sure if/when in place things will work as smoothly as we would like but will continue to follow along.
