In that case, I think I'll write an email to the Mayor and City Council to request the removal of the traffic lights from the 118 Ave/Groat Rd traffic circle.
 
Nope those stay just adds more stops along the route.
Not that It'll make any difference. Might actually improve travel times, considering the absolute shitshow that are the left turns there. Sometimes it makes things a lot worse than they'd be without the traffic lights.

103A Avenue and 99 Street Streetscape and Pedway — The City of Edmonton is seeking feedback on its designs for upgrades to sections of 103A Avenue and 99 Street, which are intended to improve pedestrian and cyclist experiences as part of downtown revitalization. Upgrades to 99 Street include a new underground pedway from Churchill LRT Station to the Station Lands development. In early 2022, council voted 10-3 to uphold its pledge to fund the pedway. Residents can submit a comment to the project team until Aug. 21.

I get why it is the way it is, but I can't help but feel like its a shame this long pedway is buried.
If we're gonna have pedways, then above ground pedways with big glass windows that cross over roads and other infrastructure are much more visually interesting, both from inside and outside.
 
It is what it is, I still think pedways are "neat" even if theyre not ideal for other reasons.

My ideal form of pedestrian grade separation when necessary is big and wide open-air overpasses, ideally level to the sidewalks or at least with only a minor slope (minimize the use of stairs and switchbacks) . Wide enough that they can easily include plantings and street furniture so that the experience as a pedestrian is to nearly forget you're even crossing a road.
In places where major vehicle routes intersection major pedestrian routes (see: Jasper Ave @ 109 St) I think the car infrastructure should drop below grade, so pedestrian crossings can be level and unimpeded.

I would prefer we not have pedways (which are terrible from a CPTED standpoint), and just have really good outdoor space.
In our weather, it is very unreasonable to go for that. During the winter, even in the "warmer" days, walking 3, 4 blocks can be very uncomfortable. If we are thinking of densifying and attracting residents, we must think that these people (of all ages) will be running errands, doing groceries, etc, ideally on foot. Imagine yourself walking 4+ blocks in the dead of winter with your hands full of groceries, for example?
 
I think this was posted before - new casino at the Bear Hills rest area on the QE2 (south of the Wetaskiwin interchange) is opening at the end of the year!

I drove by 34 Street/Roper Road today, and the road work is edging closer to completion. Looks like Roper Road is being extended further east as part of the industrial park construction.
 
I haven't been to West Ed in a while but I've seen how they treat pedestrians.
Will they have a halfway decent dedicated pedestrian path from this overpass to the mall entrance, I guess at Hudson's Bay?
Or will they just be dumped directly into the parking lot?

Likely just dumped into the parking lot, as usual there.

It’s a good 5 blocks into the mall from this bridge. Hellish in the winter with how trash their parking lot can be.
