Good point - it's an 80's thing - Bee Bell Bakery was wildly popular in a building next door, I believe - that burned down - this building is the re-birth of it. Subsequently, it closed down what seems like 20 years ago.....and varying establishments have come and gone. It was "THE" place to go if you wanted an expensive birthday or anniversary cake etc.

I still can't quite tell what this banner is saying. Is the existing building on this site for lease, even though it looks nothing like what's on the banner? What's going on?
 
The picture looks like it's 8124 103 St (along Gateway Blvd just across from Station Park, south of Hudsons), not "The Bell" south of The Hat building. The sign o nthe render even matches one of the stores that's there right now (the corset place)

Yeah, sorry I guess I'm showing my age a bit. Bee Bell bakery originally was in the building where nightshade corsets is in on gateway Blvd.

I don't remember the previous building next door it may have been before I was around, but when I moved to the area Bee Bell was very popular, a destination location in Old Strathcona and I believe for a number of years.

After it closed the space was vacant for a while and couple other things moved into the building since then, but the exterior of the nice, distinctive building hasn't changed much. It is on 80th Ave, between 104 and 105 Streets, just south east of the new Hat building under construction now (west of ATB on Calgary Trail).

Rezoning proposal to allow for a car dealership north of Home Depot on Gateway Blvd.

Currently an empty lot.
 
At the same time, doesn't exactly jive with the Strathcona Junction ARP consolidation plans, even if it beats the decades old empty lot.
 
Anyone know any history of that site? Pretty prime piece of real estate to sit as an empty field for ages.

Is this just a former prison design with some random lime green and blue boxes added to balconies?

Oh, and this is a 3min drive further west from the valley line terminus that’s next to 0 housing and a golf course.

Our city planners are the bestest.

In red: our 5 billion dollar train line and terminus.

In green: over 2000 units of housing, a half billion dollar rec centre and library, multiple major shopping centres, 3 junior high schools.

Is this one of the greatest oversights in transit design our city has made?

University and kingsway ground level crossings are up there. But this is opportunity cost to the moon…

I'm interested in seeing how these buildings age. Generally, bright exterior paint ends up looking like absolute hot dog water after a few years.
