Court House, Allan Merrick Jeffers, Edmonton, Alberta
Court House (centre-right), along with many other long-lost structures, c. 1950s, public domain archival image

Beautiful Edmonton courthouse gone and replaced with garbage ! 😢

Love looking at those old dt pictures and trying to figure out which buildings are still there.

From what I can tell: Telephone building, McLeod building, obv the Hotel Mac, the World Trade Centre building, + whatever that building is in the bottom right corner (didn't realize it was that old).

Anyone know what that building is on what looks like the site of the Westin is currently?

The Westin replaced our old Post Office Building - but the clock is still there on the northwest corner of hotel property.

While not everything there in the past was great, there were some beautiful buildings that should have been kept. There was and still to much of tear down mentality here that negatively affects our city, particularly downtown and the older areas nearby. Many other cities at least had the good sense to keep their beautiful old court houses.

This is one site.

This site.

And there's about three other sites on the top of my head that are currently bare (no homes) and are ready to go.

Sorry for all the map links. You asked! :p
