Anyway, I meant to say that the idea to renovate and uplift the little row of (run-down at the time) townhouses and convert them to condos with a little style and panache was all Jeff Devins; I was happy to be part of his vision.
Nice to hear a bit of the story behind these interesting and unique condos and the fellow who helped bring this about. It is good to have something like this as part of his legacy.

50-300 years from now, Edmontonians might look to Skyrise archives for part of the history of our city, truly. So keep sharing @archited!
 
Once again, so much density and no transit to serve it. We need the capital line to be doing the next 3 stations as part of the current extension.

Why do we wait until an area is populated and costlier to build in? Letting more people be impacted by the construction…

Meanwhile we have an unopened station at blatchford and 0 density there…

I am quite sure the city will protect the alignment for the LRT so whether not not it is built up it won’t matter

The alignment is protected. Sure. But the roads it’ll cross will have 5x the traffic.

And all the residents moving into the area will live car dependent for years, creating patterns that take decades to undue. Vs transit being there day 1 helps more households go 1 car vs 2.
 
^well that makes too much sense. Why be proactive when you can be reactive. Isn't it better to fix a problem after a long time of the citizens complaining than to do it now. If you fix the problem too soon you won't be given credit by enough people saying that it has finally been done and long overdue.
 
There are rumblings that the Provs want to extend this line to the airport in the near term. The new? Mayor should bring this discussion to the forefront. I have long thought this extension to be in the "no brainer" category. I would think that there would be a huge bump in ridership overall if travelers coming-and-going could get to hotels and services in the City more easily.

The fact it wasn’t extended to the airport a long time is a big failure by transit, administration and councils. The most expensive components for LRT are crossings and stations. Laying track in dedicated rights of way is cheap.

I mean, look where we live, and you have all the answers you need since the province has to pony up money for LRT projects. If we lived somewhere that wasn't constantly decrying bike lanes and transit, perhaps we would have a better system. The political turmoil isn't a new phenomenon. The fact that the government is exploring rail between Calgary and Edmonton and to Banff is nuts to me. Even more so is the inclusion of connecting the airport to our LRT system in the Transportation and Economic Corridors Minister's new mandate letter:
  • In partnership with the City of Edmonton, commence planning for a YEG Airport connector to Edmonton’s light rail transit system as part of the Passenger Rail Strategy.

Complaining that we don't built transit first while also complaining that we DID build transit first in Blatchford in the same post? 🤣

I mean... Blatchford is kinda what we want here no? 😭 residents there will have their LRT connection right when they move in.

I agree tho, the entire South LRT extension should've been built in one phase, with the second phase being an extension to the airport with room reserved for future stations in Rabbit Hill.
