This church has always looked somewhat odd to me, like there was an accident and a portion of the steeple was lost, apparently not, it was built that way.

Of course, it could also be the reverse: the tower was built with the eventuality of a steeple in mind. (Another church whose "truncated" look suggests an anticipated tower: Holy Rosary, just E of St Clair West station.)
