Yay, they're opening a Denny's Restaurant on Dundas Street in the old Sai Woo building.

Yay for that, but potentially a big boo for

§ Landlord will be improving façade of the building, including changing the colour of existing green coloured glass panels and installing new coverings over the existing mullions

I love that building.

The building I speak of - 121/123 Dundas - soon to be a Dennys - was the first location of Sai Woo. About 1960 or so to 1975ish.

The second location on the north side across the street is the one most everyone, including you, are more familiar with.

I mostly had a window seat at either the main room (s/w corner) or another window seat in the Andrew Wyeth Room on the south.

Every once and a while at The St Lawrence Market, I meet - up with one of the 70's - 80's employees from 21; a fine Lady as always.

Then and Now for April 1, 2013. Obviously there was the option of possibility for mischief tonight but I creatively I came up nought so perhaps someone else can weigh in.

So, just a straightforward Then and Now.




Then. Easter window then. April 2, 1956 Hall's Florist 1278 Bloor St. W.

Now. March 30, 2013.

Then and Now for April 1, 2013.




Then. 'Looking N from the top of the Eaton factory c1910.' Dundas crosses left to right/west to east across the middle of the picture. Bay street is the north south street. The church on the northeast corner of Dundas and Bay was a theatre (The Lyric) in its later years. It came down for the famous Ford Hotel which in turn gave way to the present Atrium office complex.

Now. Oct. 2012.

At the left edge of both pictures can be seen a walk up apartment building (with retail on the ground floor). It's a real survivor in this neighbourhood. It stretches from midblock on Dundas between Bay and Elizabeth all the way to Elizabeth.

wow the only thing still standing are the apartments at 132-148 Dundas Street west. they would have been brand new then.
