The building we all remember was closed and demolished in 2015 to prepare for another Marketplace.

During excavation, some unique artifacts of Toronto were exposed.

The proposed new building may (who knows?) look like this:

I grew up at 2616 Yonge and remember the fascination of seeing rail tracks being ripped out in about 1964 when they did a deep repave. They were where the parking lane is now; just a couple feet from the present curb.

From a longtime streetcar fan and photographer Bill Volkmer in the US comes this Sherbourne St then and now, to which I've added the current Google Streetview. The full Sherbourne streetcar route from Front to Rachael St. in Rosedale was abandoned in 1947, however the tracks south of King to Front and even down to almost the Esplanade remained usable until early 1962 to connect to the George St. Yard, where dead streetcars were towed for removal. The George St yard was on the west side of George south of Front. The Sherbourne streetcar looped through the property now being developed on Front, and if one goes over to Frederick St. a bit of track is still under the pavement just north of Front.

That looks to be the S/W corner, former home to Rogers radio stations CFTR and CHFI before the move to 1 Mt. Pleasant. The N/E corner is the office building known for where people go to get extra tax forms!
