There is a house built in the past few years on the Toronto Island, close to the Ward's ferry dock on 3rd street. I seem to recall seeing an article or something about this building. Can anybody point me to any info about this building.

that look like the house from "ferris bueller's day off".

Thanks all, this is it! The site doesn't give a lot of additional information, but what it gave is helpful.

It should, more correctly, be called "rusting vessel" because of the cladding.

The occupants apparently hear sounds from The Docks better than anyone else on the islands.

They also leave a lot of junk in the yard, I've noticed.

I dunno about Island People.

It's a good looking modern house. Unfortunately that means it is completely out of place on the islands. When I first saw it I could not get over the harsh contrast to the rest of the community.

Contrast doesn't have to be harsh. Opposites, including the architectural opposite of contemporary and older buildings, can exist in harmony - each complimenting the other.

very true of course, but I think this particular house misses the mark in terms of existing in harmony.

I wonder how many homes will have been rebuilt by the time the leases run out in 2093, and the properties revert to the Province as I assume they must?

Visiting today, I found myself contrasting this one with another newish looking one down the "street"--the latter being an utterly cloying piece of overloaded/overscaled suburban Ye Olde treacle, even if it (only) superficially appears to "blend in" more.

Which is better for the Island, I wonder...

Personally, I think the rusthouse is lovely in its setting on the island. It's true it isn't in harmony with the other buildings, but it's right at the edge of them, and that softens the blow somewhat. The vessel's colour makes me think of fall leaves or something rusting by the shore, both of which seem appropriate by the lakeshore anyways.

The built environment on the island seems like it's in a transformative time anyways. I'd rather have buildings that are contemporary and thoughtful than, as Adma says, treacle.
