as i mentioned in may's thread, june's month-end installment of photos has come a bit early because i leave for london on monday, to be followed by rome, tuscany, paris, andalucia, madrid and lisbon. (don't worry, i'll take photos).

this is also the first thread that will showcase my new camera. that, combined with the fact that june is my favourite month (for reasons i hope will be obvious after you see this thread), mean that i went overboard and took way too many photos. i've tried to be selective but still couldn't help myself.

so enjoy! i'll see you in august with a huge batch of new photos from various european locales.

Re: Montreal in June

Well it looks like World Cup fever has taken hold in Montreal as in Toronto.

Looking forward to your pictures from Europe. You always seem to have a good "eye" for a compelling scene.

Re: Montreal in June

Nice! Nice! Nice!

Does TO have any outdoor flee markets?

Re: Montreal in June

I enjoyed viewing this photoset. Montreal looks nice, thanks man.

Re: Montreal in June

nice editorial-type pics.

Montreal doesn't seem too appreciably different from Toronto, despite the ersatz 'frenchness'.

Re: Montreal in June

I'm going to Montreal this weekend for about 5 days. Since I've never been there I asked some people I know on what to expect.

I get different stories. Since I don't speak a word of french, some friends are cautioning me to expect to be ignored when I speak english.

Others are saying that as long as you stick to the downtown core, everything's fine. I have no idea what to expect.

Any thoughts?

Re: Montreal in June

St-Laurent is the divide. Historically, east of St-Laurent was French and west was English. However, that's hardly accurate when it comes to today's Montreal, but still can come in handy if you are wondering if you are in a predominantly French or English area.

The truth is, you have nothing to worry about. Being treated badly for being a unilingual anglophone isn't something to worry about. I'd say those stories tend to be more urban myth than reality. You "may" encounter some people who speak little English, but the reality is that almost anyone you talk to will speak both languages and be pleased to serve you.

Also, don't stick to downtown only. Montreal has wonderful neighbourhoods to explore, many outside the downtown.

Re: Montreal in June

Although even today many just refer to it as "The Main" and not "Boul St-Laurent" or "St. Lawrence Blvd."

Re: Montreal in June

Great photos as usual. I like the fact that you really capture the city and it's inhabitants well; contrary to popular belief, not every woman is a supermodel and not everyone (by a long shot) is a great dresser. Your pictures show a city far more interesting than that.

Re: Montreal in June

Nice to see some editorial shots captured here. Urbanism isn't just about buildings.
