I wonder if we're going to get at least one more strong candidate for mayor - it would be nice to have at least one other strong contender outside Sohi (if still running) and Cartmell.
Should start to hear some things in January.

In 2021 we had:
- Abdul Malik Chukwudi – engineer
- Rick Comrie – business owner
- Brian (Breezy) Gregg – retired music artist
- Kim Krushell – former councillor
- Augustine Marah – teacher and community activist
- Mike Nickel – incumbent ward 11 councillor
- Michael Oshry – former councillor
- Amarjeet Sohi – former councillor and MP
- Diana Steele – President of Crestwood Community League
- Cheryll Watson – Former Head of Innovate Edmonton

But there was no incumbent in 2021 so that tends to bring out more. I wonder if Sohi runs, if that will limit it to maybe just one more strong option outside of the current council.
As incumbents go, Sohi is probably considered by a fair number of people to be beatable.

Despite what the Russian bots are spreading, most progressive Edmonton people still would support Sohi over Cartmell (yuck).

The Russian bot thing screams conspiracy theory. Nobody cares about Edmonton municipal politics outside of Alberta, with the exception of some urbanist types.
I would like Ashley Salvador to be the next mayor, but I wouldn't want her running against Sohi. Preferably he endorses her and does not run again. Ashley is far too good to be without a job for 4 years.
Regarding Cartmell, he is a better option than Nickel. If you put myself in a room with Cartmell, we'd agree on a lot of things. I find the lack of support for transit and general liveability improvements in central Edmonton to be a single issue thing for me. I want him to lose because of these things.
My support online, and possibly on the ballot will go to Salvador if she runs for mayor, and very begrudgingly to Sohi if he runs and she doesn't.
I will be optimistically looking for an alternative to Stevenson as my councillor, as I don't believe she's advocated enough for improvements regarding housing, cleanliness, safety, and overall liveability in Downtown/Oliver (Wihkwentowin). I want someone that pretty much only cares about the CBD, because we need it. I would love to have more neighbours.

I think Salvador waits another term or 2. Wouldn’t be wise to run this term. In the end, the mayor is just another vote. You can accomplish lots as a councillor. No point risking a mayoral run when it’s clear “Change” is wanted. Let a conservative like Cartmell win this one, stay on council vs losing the seat to a less competent person, then make a push once he’s retiring or has opposition to performance.

Sad to see him go - he is an absolute class act. If the "staffer" in question has learned anything from Knack, I'm sure they have a shot.

It is sad how downtown has slipped in being a priority for city council in recent years. The current city council seems mostly just to react to problems downtown and not always that quickly or effectively.
