My wife has had that for about 3 weeks now. It started out as a typical cold (some sinus congestion, mucus, etc.) then just degraded into a persistent dry cough. She gets Covid tested every two weeks so she can visit her dad and continually comes up negative. I think it just one of the 'common cold' strains going around this year.

Honey in her tea seems to have helped reduce the throat irritation. We have the humidity so high to help ease her cough I'm starting to see the beginnings of a rain forest climate.

I figured. It never rose beyond a mild irritant (caused some difficulty talking without being interrupted with bouts of coughing). It wasn't anything I would have sought treatment for in normal circumstances, but I wanted to know if I should be in total isolation or not.

It has nothing to do with wealth except insofar as wealth is correlated with education but we have a public education system so there is ZERO reason for people to be ignorant about healthy eating.

Oh the UK - they're b***hing when other countries were suspending flights with them over the B117 strain. Honestly I think what we should do is ground all non-essential international travel - no ifs, no buts.

It's been especially hard on low-income groups and small business, but that is a problem that could be treated with more money from the province and feds. First of all, small businesses are largely falling by the wayside and the help offered them has in some cases been beyond inadequate. More money? Is it growing on trees now or are we still adding digits to computers to manufacture the stuff?
Money isn't free....but why let long-term consequences get in the way of reactionary panic?

Ask the abused children forced into homes with their abusers about their privilege. Or if they feel like "everything is destroyed".
But don't ask them now. Aske them in 20 years when their health outcomes are a horror show and impact society at large through crime, homelessness, mental health issues and addiction.

Or if that's too dire to contemplate, ask the generation of children in key development years who are missing very necessary opportunities for socialisation. Again, though, you'll have to wait for the result. Hope you're patient!

The think of the children argument has merit - but I think you are overstating the impact (as if they are locked in a room without any chance of interaction for an entire year or something). If we as a society truly cared about early childhood education and socialization we would have tackled a whole host of problem facing kids at an early age (nutrition, poverty, etc) - the impact of which is surely higher and more widespread than in person school getting delayed this month.

It might be helpful, although I don't know the numbers of non-essential foreign travellers entering the country and what piece of the infection numbers they represent. I get the sense the bigger problem is our own citizens trying to return, which presents a Constitutional problem (alleviated by mandatory quarantine facilities).

Your capacity to do strict testing and isolation for travelers is dependent on the number of flights, for one (not that we are *any* good at doing even that - in comparison to East Asian countries). And flight bans alone aren't enough - you can't assume they will be be foolproof - you can only rely on them to limit the scale of the problem so that other methods have a chance of working. The US didn't do it fast enough - and they weren't able to/didn't bother to beef up domestic monitoring. The rationale for doing it now is to keep out the new aggressive strain, local control and lockdown is still required no matter what.

What we need to do is ban all non-cargo flights, trains and buses inside and from outside of Canada. Let mail and cargo in but nobody should be flying, bussing or taking the train into or around Canada right now.

You’re so wrong about that. Calorie value per dollar is a big concern for many struggling to put food on the table. I know you like to place many a thing on personal responsibility, but this has long been a known food security issue. I’m not going to argue beyond that except to tell you to go read any of the dozens of studies on this.
