Should have done what someone else does. Should have said it was a doppelganger. Oh, its a big word, so unlikely.

Me love you long time..... comes to mind. Vietnam though.

Also coming to mind: anything from the Epstein scandal to the mail-order-bride ads that used to pepper the back pages of American Spectator.

Really; what do you think these filthy rich vulgarian male Amurkens would do with their tourist dollars in places like Thailand? This is what "cultural tourism" is to a philistine whose "national-identity-validated" modus operandi is to dominate and violate.

And as mentioned by another poster, "it is only illegal if you get caught". Which is really the whole point to so much of Trump's support base: to avoid getting caught, and to have things set up so that one *never* gets caught. (Until one actually gets caught, of course.)

Trump supporters enjoy playing a game in which they dodge the all-watchful eyes of Lady Karma.

Don't fall into the thinking that the Dems are any better.

Stop. The Democrats are objectively better as a party. You need to read this interview by GOP strategist Stuart Stevens, who worked 5 GOP Presidential campaigns, many more legislative and gubernatorial races. There's a reason he's now working for the Lincoln Project.

There's history behind how Party of Lincoln became the party of white supremacists in just a few decades:

If you have the time this podcast really offers some good discussion:

There was a political party that was a lot like current day GOP. The aptly named Know Nothing Party. You may have heard of the guy who eventually defeated their movement: Abraham Lincoln.

The Republican Party is broken. Stevens puts it best when he compares them to a cartel like OPEC or drug cartels. They have no principles or agenda. Their entire goal is retaining power. And this is fundamentally what differentiates them from the Democrats, who for whatever flaws, actually still have principles and a governing agenda. Nobody should be celebrating this. And I don't think America is served well with only one party interested in governing. But until the GOP is destroyed, this is exactly how it will be.

It's noteworthy how apparently fragile we see the GOP, in that in less than four years of Trump the party is seen as rotten to the core.

They have been fragile for a decade. When Mitt Romney lost, their autopsy laid it all out. A lot of the extremism that we see comes from that fragility. It's why they are going deeper into voter suppression, conspiracy theories, etc. It's the result of them not reforming.

If you listen to the podcasts above, you'll hear that winning about half the white vote gave Nixon and Reagan massive landslides. Winning the same cost Romney the election. Trump only succeeded because minorities didn't turn out sufficiently and Trump drove up white turnout a few points in a few key states. But that's a skin of the teeth victory (80 000 votes in three states with a combined population of 28 million) that he's unlikely to repeat. And with every year that goes by the demographics gets worse for the GOP. Contrast this with Conservative parties in the UK and Canada who actually do manage to attract a decent amount of minority and immigrant support.

If there isn't a landslide Dem victory in November we can expect Trump to denounce the election and its mail-in ballots, etc. He will anyway if he loses, but without a landslide Dem victory I fear the country falling into chaos.

Just finished this piece https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2020/08/racism-republican-party-stuart-stevens/ Very interesting. Watch the other side boil over here......https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/warships1discussionboards/why-did-republicans-change-t42086-s40.html#p833265

As the United States gears up for the 2020 election, its 16th president is rolling in his grave so furiously that it creates a magnitude 9 earthquake.

The comments prove Stevens points. The party is devolving into an unprincipled cult. The first step in any cult is encouraging members to cut outside sources of info. Or at least delegitimize them. So now a guy who worked five Presidential campaigns and innumerable other Republican campaigns and delivered countless wins, is a RINO who knows nothing.

And those views won't change as long as the GOP holds power. Even a loss in 2020 won't be enough. They will need a long term decline. And there's no better example of that than Pete Wilson in California. The Governor who ran and won two terms on anti-migrant policies in California. In the 90s. Today, there's more Californians registering as Independents than Republicans. And this is the state that gave America two of its most conservative Presidents: Nixon and Reagan. Wilson may have won his elections, but he tainted the Republican brand and activated a lot of low voting minority groups against the GOP. He won the battle. Lost the war. More than anywhere else, California Republicans are terrified that they are watching Trump do the same nationally:

The decline started long before the Romney loss - recall the obstructionist Tea Party movement (which is IMO the proto-cult) and indomitable Sarah Palin? It had already started going off the rails at that point, if not before (Karl Rove et al. in GWB's).
