I have an update about security. There are two attendants as mentioned. One attendant will routinely walk around the park to observe any issues. They won't intervene but they can report to the City or EPS as needed.

PCL is also proactively watching things in the park, as they have a vested interest as they are maintaining it for the next year during their warranty period.

There is discussions with Parks Operations and Community Standards about safety and security in the future. I've heard these talks are going well and everyone is very aware of the safety concerns the public has, as they are getting a lot of questions as well.

EPS is also patrolling the park, but I intend to get a bit more information about what that looks like formally, as I've heard the Downtown Beats are changing from patrolling specific areas to a more data driven approach. The league wants to ensure that the community priorities (ie. this park) are not lost in this transition.

“EPS is patrolling the park” …

As in they drive down jasper in an SUV every 30 minutes?

I saw a few cops patrolling the park on foot when I was there a few days ago, Mr. Debbie Downer.
Haha. I hope so. I can count on my hands how many times I’ve seen cops walking downtown (excluding major events) and I’m there multiple times a week.

And even for major events, like 20k parents and children for the Disney symphony, we’ll still have a half dozen meth heads and trash all over the valley line stop by city centre. Can’t even do their jobs when paid 2.5x for OT…

"There is discussions with Parks Operations and Community Standards about safety and security in the future."

Surely these talks should have concluded in the past so that a plan was ready for the future, i.e. now, when the park is open? And by the way, other parks and the rest of downtown should not have lower standards of safety than a new park. Any plan for the park should be applicable on all streets. What a mess we have got ourselves in.

While we all appreciate this program, but “have responded to 164 fires, and have put out all but a (few) of them.” Why in hell are they putting out fires? Are there that many of them!? Fack what is wrong with these ass@ole homeless mother@uckers! Enough of this insanity! Oh wait, is that “fake rage?” Are we allowed to be mad anymore?

This is the joke community policing has become in Edmonton, the police quickly driving down Jasper Ave in their SUV's. One of the reasons there is so much social disorder is because of the lack of police presence.

Those who cause problems know well where the police are and are not downtown.

It has good access from 107 Street, but it is unfortunate that it is not more visible from Jasper Ave and sort of hidden behind the two surface parking lots. If anything is ever built on them it may be even less visible.
Most of the world's great parks are hidden from main streets. I wouldn't worry about it,
