79th Ave. Between 105 and 105 street.

Two sets of four houses boarded and fenced up with demo permits.

Anyone know what is planned to be built?

Not seeing any development permit pulled for the lots.

Maybe they were problem houses?
Well the owners or property managers particularly of the west ones really seemed to like to rent to bad tenants, so there were a lot of crime problems. I don't think the condition of the houses was the problem.

My guess is someone saw or created a chance to snap a bunch of houses (funny how a lot of crime in an area can drive the neighours away), did that and they are now planning to sell to a developer or have already done so.

I happened to be sitting here and noticed the signs up. I thought that both locations were staying, I guess not.

Sorry Paul....you thought both locations were staying open? But we clearly stated that their Whyte Ave location was shutting down after more than 30 years......

What is “steps away from the Farmers Market” building? The parking lot across Gateway? Why is she not specific?

That's a pretty small building isn't it?

Super small building. And apparently not in a good enough condition to continue functioning as the Old Strathcona Youth Society, which it had been up until a year ago. Not sure what they’re imagining a use-case is for this, especially with the price being just shy of $1,000,000.

This is probably the most vibrant street in the city, though. Certainly on weekend mornings with the farmer’s market. I think something like a boutique hotel would do awesome here.

Old CIBC building on Whyte ave, renovated to the tune of $1,500,000 by Beljan. The price has dropped by almost $1,000,000 since first listed over a year ago. I’ve been kind of monitoring this one because for the life of me, I just can’t see the vision here… Other than perhaps another bank that wants a giant, weird, obsidian black storefront, what kind of business would buy this?

Maybe it speaks more to my lack of business acumen but the only thing I can envision operating in a space like this is a strip club of some sorts. One large space with a bunch of semi-private closet spaced rooms attached? A functioning, industrial bank vault? A mezzanine for some kingpin to oversee the operations?

Anyone else have some insight on this project? lol
