"There was little else in the budget earmarked for Ottawa capital projects — including Landsdowne 2.0 and the affordable housing units that are supposed to come with it.

Neil Saravanamuttoo, the Ottawa-based director of non-profit CityShapes, said there had been a request from the city for $20 million in provincial funding for the project.

"That's a disappointment for the people of Ottawa and it just means it'll be another $20 million that the taxpayers have to pick up," he said."
 
Event centre site plan is the next step for Lansdowne 2.0

The City of Ottawa is preparing the site plan for the Lansdowne 2.0 event centre. Before the site plan is designed, we need your input on what should be included.

The event centre is just one part of Lansdowne 2.0, and designing the site plan is just the next step. For more information and background on this important City project, visit Engage Ottawa.

There will be two in-person events this summer where you can learn more about the event centre site plan and provide your input:

Tuesday, June 18, from 6 to 9 pm
Inside Gate 2 at TD Arena
Sunday, August 11, from 9 am to 3 pm

Based on the summertime feedback, a draft site plan will be published on DevApps and on Engage Ottawa. You will have one more opportunity to provide feedback on the draft plan at a public meeting on Tuesday, September 10.

The site plan is also scheduled to be reviewed by the City’s Accessibility Committee before it is finalized by staff.

As the City and its partners move ahead with a detailed design, staff will report to Council later next year on the final package of approvals, including the final construction price, final air rights value and any required funding strategy amendments prior to construction. I'm more annoyed that we're demolishing a unique 10k arena designed by one of the most celebrated Canadian architects, and arena that witnessed history on numerous occasions, for a 5.5k arena that will cost at least $250 million.

That's another annoying one. If they had replaced it with something around the same size, I'd be less annoyed. The original proposal was way better, we downgraded this a lot. It's like we learned nothing from 1.0. It's so frustrating because if they just kept the original plan, invested in a greenroof, and made a way for the capacity to hit closer to 9k, we'd actually have a real "world class" plan like they're always touting. Half-assing it like this only helps marginally compared to what it could have had.

We also lost Rec Room. Imagine how lively Lansdowne would be to have those 3 towers at max heights, Rec Room, Live Nation, two floors of retail additions, and a green roof arena.

I mean we are still getting an improvement in some ways, but what we were going to have was so much more. This sucks. I just hope Lebreton continues on a good track instead of this botched 2.0.

Live Nation and RecRoom were the most exciting parts of this plan. These two venues would have attracted new people to Lansdowne and made it that much more lively. As it stands, there's literally nothing new to bring more people to the site. In fact, with the smaller sports facilities, it's likely fewer people will come. The tower could help somewhat the retail component and market, but won't have the dramatic increase in business they are hoping for.

They also dropped the units from 1200 to 770 to save this patch of concrete for the nearly dead Glebite NIMBY BANANA army to enjoy.

It's funny, they were trying to cry that they were against the proposal and it wasn't about the "units". Yet we lost 430 units and they sat there congratulating themselves and are now quiet. Housing crisis where all we need are more units, and we cut those when those are the things that will help offset the costs the most. It's just baffling. Hate to sound repetitive but honestly, that initial proposal really was just so much better.

Maybe they propose a rework in the future but I think they're hoping to start shovels for the towers right after the arena is completed, correct?
