You didn't mention/illustrate there are ultra-modern elements in the Crossroads amalgam, too.
IMO it seems overbuilt/grandiose with purpose--not that I agree w/said purpose; but, what the hey. Besides, there are some more SOM-wannabe corporate HQ-type buildings on that stretch of QEW/403 IIRC which might stake equal claim to overbuilt grandiosity...well, if you want to be anal about it...
