As I noted above, rate hikes are coming to on-street parking via a report to next week's TPA meeting.
Of note, the majority of the increases are small, only .25c per hour, which I expect is the result of the requirement to 'consult' ward councillors on parking rates, something that should be removed.
However, that same policy results in one glaring (and positive) anomaly. Councillor Saxe clearly pushed for higher parking rates in her ward and as a result, rates are rising by $1.25 or more at select locations, with some spaces jumping a whopping $2.75 per hour! (great)
Primarily along Bloor and throughout the U of T campus. Good for her (seriously)!

I’m good with higher rates but I don’t like the flat rates on weekend for some private lots when you need just a quick stop.

Last year the big change was that almost everything south of Carlton/College between Spadina and Jarvis was moved into tier 1 which at the time was $6.75 an hour. The big change this year is the north half of Downtown, Carlton/College to Davenport from Spadina to Jarvis is now moving to tier 1 which has been raised to $7 an hour. Streets like Yorkville, Scollard, Cumberland, Charles, St. George, St. Mary, Bloor, Hoskin, Harbord, Wellesley going from $5.50 to $7. Many of these were just $3 an hour until the 2024 rate increase. That's a huge jump. It was stupid that street parking used to cost half of going in a garage. Will be very interesting to see if this makes people start thinking twice.
On a related note the east/west drop-off is still too steep. At Spadina and Jarvis rates drop off form $7 an hour to $4.50 an hour. I expect people will figure this out.
