@DSCToronto this stage of the process/report is new, but the idea is not.

We discussed it previously in the Humber Gap Trail since the two plans overlap.

From Matt Elliott on X:

Cynthia Lai Park, formerly Rosebank Park, renamed for the late councillor, has received a $15 million donation to build an Asian Garden.

expansion will help meet the high parking demand, especially during major events at the
CCC. Staff support the additional parking as it will ease current pressures and enhance
accessibility for the increased number of visitors once the Asian Garden is constructed.

Images of the upgrading of a section of the linear park on the south side of Geary. Love the seats! Taken 19 December.

The concrete pads are too close to the trees, they will impair the trees, and/or, the trees roots will crack the pads. I'm honestly stunned someone did this, stupid is a word I use sparingly, but it fits here.

All they needed to do was pour the pads 1.2M further south. Gah!

Nice, those look like BLOC sun benches by Vestre. They're very comfy.

They look comfy to sit on, but a bit awkward to get up from.

Mississauga released its proposed parks budget for 2026. There's a big $46 million cut to park re-development funding.

On the plus side, $45 million is allocated for new parkland acquisition in 2026. It's hard for me to say where that money is going. The only big parkland acquisition I'm aware of is the new Cooksville Park, which has a multi-year cost of $29 million listed. There are other new parks being developed, but my understanding was those were mostly developer-driven parkland dedication. Perhaps parkland dedication gets thrown in the acquisition budget for accounting reasons?

Overall, the total 2026 capital budget is $90 million and the 10-year capital plan is costed at $673.8 million. That implies a future cut to capital spending, because if the city spent $90 million in parks capital spending (EDIT: every year), the 10-year budget would be $900 million.

The parks operating budget seems mostly unchanged, other than by inflation.
