The Strip District is located northeast of Downtown Pittsburgh, on a narrow "strip" of flat land south of the Allegheny River. Along several blocks of Penn Avenue is a lively market on weekends during the day and a centre for nightlife in the evening. It somewhat resembles Toronto's Kensington Market, with a mix of bakeries, candy shops, and ethnic supermarkets (including some well-stocked Chinese supermarkets). Add to that mix a good number of stands selling sports souvenirs (mostly NFL Steelers gear, since it is the most followed team in the city).
