Name something he's done as an MP for his constituents?

I'm loathe to defend Polievre. But just because I dislike broad-brushes and reactionary takes:

In addition to being an MP, he's also been a Cabinet Minister in 2 portfolios. I'm not sure what experience profile you'd specifically want in a Prime Minister, but it seems like being an MP for 20 years and also a Cabinet Minister is pretty good relevant experience?

I don't like Poilievre, but he has very specific experience relevant to governing a country that almost nobody else in the country has.

Why? Your mind's made up, AFAICT.

To avoid wasting your time or the group's, let's consult ChatGPT. That said, I suspect your default dismissal is already prepared.

Pierre Poilievre, as the Member of Parliament for Nepean—Carleton undertook several initiatives to benefit both constituents:
  • Advocating for Queensway Carleton Hospital: Poilievre championed the cause of the Queensway Carleton Hospital, which was facing funding challenges during its expansion. He introduced a private member's bill to eliminate the rent the hospital paid to the federal government, advocating for a nominal $1 per year rent to support the hospital's operations. Although the bill was initially defeated, the initiative was later implemented when John Baird became President of the Treasury Board.

  • Sponsoring Legislative Initiatives: Poilievre sponsored private member bills aimed at increasing accountability and responsibility:
    • Bill C-383: Introduced on May 11, 2005, to create a means to recall Members of Parliament through a petition.

    • Bill C-456: Introduced on November 24, 2005, to amend the Criminal Code by making it an offence for a parent to contribute through negligence or inappropriate action to behavior that results in their child committing an offence.

  • Serving in Parliamentary Roles: During his tenure, Poilievre served as Parliamentary Secretary to various ministers, including the President of the Treasury Board and the Prime Minister, contributing to the drafting and adoption of the Federal Accountability Act, which aimed to increase transparency and accountability in government operations.

These efforts reflect Poilievre's commitment to addressing both local and national issues impacting the residents of Nepean—Carleton during his time as their representative.

Public service is real life experience. This argument will fall flat.
Though public service is commendable, I think most people equate a public service job as VERY different from a private service one with far less chance of being fired or laid off and a very good pension.

I wish Nate Erskine would run.

But maybe he's better off provincially after Ford wins the next election.
Bonnie Crombie will likely be around awhile as leader of the Liberals. She didn't leave being the mayor of Missisauga just to participate in one election cycle.
