I get the sense that it's a deductive reasoning conclusion.

- TTC is overbudget
- Cuts are usually the way to get under budget

- Therefor the TTC has to cut to get under budget.

That's not reporting the news though.

- Jimmy and Bob share identical views.
- Jimmy and Bob both post on Urban Toronto supporting each other.

- Jimmy and Bob are the same people.

So if they need to cut spending are they still going ahead with the supposedly massive improvements in 2 weeks?

Why not promote this to the media?

Is this already in the capital budget hence the need for additional cuts?
 
The TTC is trying to get new drivers, since if they work regular hours, then they don't have to pay the overtime rate.

I think that any company that pays overtime would rather pay for the extra people at regular wages, unless it cuts into extra benefits, EI, pension, etc.
 
I think that the economic slowdown has resulted in lower-than-expected ridership growth, and therefore lower-than-expected revenue. The article doesn't mention that though. Remember that MT is cutting service too, so this is not a TTC-only problem.

Remember that transit budget are part of municipal budgets and all municipalities have had major budget problems overall, which is after all what the recent plans for uploading costs by the province aims to fix.

I am really happy about these changes. Up until the summer I used the Pharmacy North 167 route to go Ryerson, but I would have to take Steeles since the 167 would stop running at night. Not a big deal for me but i'm sure many people didn't like the lack of night service. One thing that I'm a bit undecided on was the rerouting. It went from this to this to and from Don Mills Station. It is good in that it gets people to and from the Consumers Road business park (and a lot of it via Yorkland) all day instead of just the rush periods, and could attract new riders who normally drive to this area and live close to Pharmacy. However, it will add probably around 5-10 minutes a trip depending on the day for those that use this bus route, or make people transfer to/from a Sheppard/190 bus to avoid this detour.
 
The 167 is also the one route that saw a 'cut' in service, on Saturday midday, as it goes from two buses on a 40 minute round trip to two buses on a 60 minute round trip due to the detour.

Interesting. I think improved service to Consumers Rd is a good idea, but the routing makes me scratch my head. Why not put the bus on Yorkland Road rather than the S-curve via Yorkland Blvd and Consumers Road? There are traffic lights on Sheppard at Yorkland Rd and walking distances aren't far so it shouldn't inconvienience anyone.

And did they consider routing the bus via Meadowacres Dr and Farmcrest Dr to Pharmacy rather than Vic Park and Sheppard? It would probably be faster than having to to left-turns and would bring transit closer to a good number of houses. (As long as the locals aren't overly NIMBYish)
