The Ontario flag was meant to appease those who were against replacing the Red Ensign as Canada's unofficial national flag with the Maple Leaf. Our national flag no longer has any colonial symbols, I see nothing wrong with a little reminder of our past in our provincial flag. Heck, if Hawaii can have the Union Jack in their flag, surely Ontario can.
