Renata Ford should be getting a portion of the CPP survivor benefit. There was a standard life insurance for being on Toronto City Council, but being such a cheapskate, doubt Rob went for the extra life insurance. Don't know if Renata is eligible for a survivor pension from Rob term on City Council?

Looks like financially, Renata is downsizing her home.

Not at all difficult to check. Just go to City Hall and run a property search in the services centre on the main floor. It will say in whose name the property is deeded to - that's where the property tax bill goes.

Rob Ford's widow Renata Ford filed the suit, which claims Doug Ford has mismanaged the family business and deprived her and her children of millions of dollars. Maximum CPP survivor's benefit is about $550. per month. She probably got his life insurance, but that wouldn't last more than a couple of years. Nothing else available as far as I know.

It's only been 12 years since Doug Ford, Sr. died. Deco being a privately owned company, there's little public transparency and thus only Doug's word to go on for its "success". But previous employees of Deco Toronto speak of a different situation. Chicago was profitable for a while, but it was set up while Doug Sr. was still running the company in 1999. Doug Jr. wouldn't get full control of Deco until 2002. Doug Jr. may have been instrumental in setting it up, but Doug Sr. still held his leash.

Then there's Deco New Jersey, Deco Ohio and Deco Florida.

Doug set up Deco offices in Ohio and Florida. They went down in flames, incapable of drumming up more business; in spite of being low-overhead situations (a salesguy and a desk).

Doug also bought a 56-year old printing business in New Jersey called "Wise Tag & Label". The owner wanted out because his illness no longer allowed him to run the company. Doug failed to pay back debts he was contractually obligated to assume when he took over Wise Tag & Label and was sued for compensation from the previous owner's son. Wise was forced to close down in May of last year. Another printing company bought the remaining assets (name, equipment and customer list).

I think it was Doug's quote that I am thinking of -- he has known about this and had the opportunity to pay out before the filing but didn't.

The actual suit was filed on Friday.

Translation from DoFo bullshit: Renata's lawyers offered to try to settle the case before issuing the pleading. Lawyers are obliged to urge their clients to try to settle cases instead of suing. That is a professional conduct obligation. (I know this because I have been a lawyer for coming up on four decades.) Either Doug declined to try to settle or there was some effort but it did not succeed. Therefore the Statement of Claim was filed. And if the aim of suing was to drag down his campaign, one would think that the pleading would have been issued some time back, to give the allegations time to be more widely circulated and more frequently repeated than will be possible during just three days.

His record as councillor, his stint of being "co-mayor" the failure of DECO in Florida & New Jersey from insolvency or bankruptcy to name a few; growth of the company? "By all accounts"? Where are your numbers?

I'm sure competent businessmen exploit people like his conflict of interest as a counsellor, remember that he likens a government to a business. If he is dubious in government then he will be in business. His actions broke the public trust, follow the dots.

In this morning's press conference, Doug emphasized his unwavering support for Rob's kids, full stop. Every single question about the accusations, he used the same reasoning that he's for the kids. Fine, then present some proof that a trust fund has been or is in the process of being created for the kids.

In the suit, it states that any money for the kids will be a third of what remains of Doug Sr's Estate when Diane dies. Since all the money is in play there may not be much of a trust.

Sounds like a great businessman to me.

Here's what I took from that article by the lovely Ms. Doolittle whom I respect and admire greatly:

"As a privately owned business, Deco is under no obligation to disclose internal financial information."

I'll take a businessman with decades of experience, and what appears to be success from the outside, like DOUG FORD over a card carrying neo socialist party any day of the week.
