Ouch...

Breaking: Justice Belobaba finds #bill5 breaches s.2(b) of the Charter, and has not been justified under s.1. Declared of no force and effect effective immediately. October 22nd election will proceed as scheduled but with 47 wards, not 25.

I agree with the decision, but I question whether its logistically possible to unscramble the egg in time for October 22nd.

What a mess.

The province...........nay, Doug Ford should have to foot the bill for this mess.

That would be only fitting since this entire ridiculous and unnecessary fiasco appears to be entirely of Thug's making.

His pathetic attempt at a little payback against Toronto...but payback for what? Because the whole city didn't bend over backwards to kiss Pea Brained Baby Bro's - and more importantly, his - gigantic asses when they were mismanaging the affairs of the city government?

We should not forget that this mess (and those about Tesla, cap and trade etc) were (are?) supported by his cabinet. They need to use the (few, in some cases) brains that they have and ensure future decisions are MUCH more thought out and based on evidence and law.

It will be very interesting to see how much all this kerfuffle ended up costing taxpayers... city lawyers, provincial lawyers, appeals, new Toronto Elections contracts with vendors, election staff overtime, etc.

I wonder if the judge used his gavel to deliver the ruling or simply sipped on his latte.

Now the Not-withstanding Clause. What a TOTAL idiot who is showing off his TOTAL lack of legal knowledge. Do none of his cabinet have the balls to tell him to 'move on' and, if he must, bring back a Bill to take effect in 2022.

I expect they tried, which probably explains the delay on the presser. And hey, every single constitutional expert in the country and on every news outlet says he's right!

This is unbelievable.

The premier who is 'for the people' is ignoring the wishes of the people and a ruling by using a clause that has never been used in provincial history. It's only supposed to be used in the most extreme of situations.

Where are all the people who claimed the Liberals didn't respect democracy? Ford seems to think it's okay to run the province like a dictator.

This will go over well with his base, that's for sure. Interesting that he isn't reducing city council sizes all over the province, nor is he reducing the number of MPPs.

"80s Doug Ford" is playing his favourite song, "Sledgehammer".

Wow, total ignorance and we see his true colours. Ok most of us already knew, but now everyone can see this for what it is: petty dictatorship.

This pathetic situation provides a golden opportunity for Trudeau to win some easy brownie points...

What's to stop this power tripping imbecile from destroying everything else that he personally hates?

Waterfront Toronto?
Ontario Works?
The Greenbelt?
Metrolinx?
The TTC?
Streetcars?

Remember when Sex Ed was being forced on the population, despite years of development and statistically relevant consultation with parents, along with the always available ability to opt out of your kids having to participate in the lessons?

How will Ford supporters justify this abuse of power in order to damage democratic representation in Toronto?
