Edit to add: The opposition party throughout that period was actually the Conservatives.

The (Progressive) Conservatives were THE Opposition in the between 2003 and 2018. Why didn't they pressure the prior government? Too busy having lunch with their LTC executives?

I can actually see this whole Teneycke/Proud axis tactic backfiring, much as it did federally in '15 and '19--these people just get too giddy and high on their apparent success, without considering the extenuating outside factors that led to said success. (Sort of like how the seal of doom for Harper in '15 was in how everything surrounding his campaign took on a glossy, cheesy Sun News aesthetic, with no comprehension of how Sun News failed, or perhaps some internal notion that said failure was a "fix". They're like virgin losers who, out of some spot circumstance, actually get laid; and conclude all of a sudden that they're real ladies' men and proceed to fail, over and over again, to get a second chance.)

'According to the legends of the 19th century, Truth and Lie meet one day. The Lie tells the Truth: "Today is a wonderful day"! The truth looks up to the sky and sighs because the day was really beautiful. They spend a lot of time together, eventually arriving at the well. A lie tells the Truth: "The water is very nice, let's take a bath together!" True, he checks the water suspiciously and finds that it is indeed very nice.
They undress and start taking a bath. Suddenly the Lie comes out of the water, puts on the garments of the Truth and runs away. The furious truth comes out of the well and runs everywhere to find the Lie and get its clothes back. The world, seeing the truth naked, looks away with contempt and rage.
Poor Truth returns to the well and disappears forever, hiding in it out of shame. Since then, the Lie has traveled all over the world, dressed as the Truth, meeting the needs of society, because the world has no intention of meeting the naked Truth under any circumstances.'

Famous painting - "The Truth Coming Out of the Well" by Jean-Léon Gérôme, 1896.
