The Star has an article out showing that most municipalities aren't ticketing under 11km/h for 30/40/50 zones, and higher for 60.

Fords comments about people getting dinged for a few km/h over seem only possible in some small municipalities...

You sound surprised that Mr Ford might have exaggerated the 'supposed' problems?

I don't think it's an exaggeration—it's more a lack of due diligence in validating residents' complaints (against the data/science). I imagine he hears about the speed cameras frequently and responds with comments that echo public sentiment. He's fulfilling the populist stance.

Whatever, however if one is Premier one surely has some responsibility to base decisions on evidence and science. (OK, I guess not based on actions by the US President!!)

... base decisions on evidence and science.
He has consistently shown that he prefers to listen to 'the people' over that.

The challenge is getting the competing voice just as loud—only then can the tide begin to turn. Mayors like Brown in Brampton, while technically on the same 'team' (with some 'history'), offer a useful example. Their stance might help shift things toward compromise—or even a full reversal.

“documents obtained by Global News using freedom of information laws reveal that, over three years, vehicles registered to Ford’s cabinet minister received more than $3,300 in fines for speeding.”

“The fastest speed the vehicles were recorded going was 30 km/h over the limit, and the lowest speed was 11 km/h over the limit. On average, the government vehicles were snapped 17 km/h above the limit, with the average cost of the tickets $144.”

Still also believe the internet conspiracy theory that one of Ford's daughters also got a slew of tickets

As far as I can tell, that entire story originated in one completely unsourced Reddit comment. I don't find it totally hard to believe, but there's also not a shred of evidence for it.

As for this morning's story, I suspect those vehicles were being driven by staffers rather than the ministers, and the tickets were quietly paid without the ministers ever knowing.

When has Reddit ever got anything wrong?

That article could have been written with better clarity. The only vehicles that would be "registered" to an individual cabinet member would be their personal vehicles. Government vehicles are registered to the Crown 'in the right of Ontario', although they are typically further identified to a particular ministry, the Cabinet Office, etc. I suspect they are mostly driven by staffers.

Yeah, I agree, but I'm satisfied with stories critical of the gov that centre around bad optics when Ford's governance seems to revolve around chasing polling figures and what might give them good light. I prefer more nuanced writing but there isn't a lot of appetite for it.
