My sister just emailed me and said Doug Effing Ford may be the direct cause of her losing her job. She has 2 clients and 1 has a freeze on it that came from Ford a few days ago. Not sure exactly what she does but the trickle down effect is already starting.

Lots of folks who directly or indirectly depend on the government teat will be losing their jobs. That’s what drove cons to the ballot box. I like my entitlements, and those of my neighbours, so I voted NDP, but I can see the other side POV too.

Ontario set to hit the brakes on electric vehicle rebates
https://www.thestar.com/news/queens...t-the-brakes-on-electric-vehicle-rebates.html

Looks like the Tesla business model of depending on subsidies instead of selling cars will be put to the test.

The entire "free market" system is built on the notion of "Socialism for the rich, capitalism for the poor." Tax breaks to Amazon? 2008 bailout? Is any of this ringing a bell?

Do you really not know how much corporate welfare automakers have received over the last half century?!? Are you kidding me?

I'll assume you're genuinely curious rather than being rhetorically dramatic.
Tax breaks to Amazon?
I'm not aware of any Ontario tax breaks to Amazon. Perhaps you're referring to foreign tax breaks to a foreign entity, but that's outside the scope of an Ontario government thread. Returning to relevancy, I'd be opposed to Doug Ford giving a tax break to Amazon Canada as an enticement to build their 2HQ in Ontario.
2008 bailout? Is any of this ringing a bell?
Sure, but outside of the Ontario government's contribution to Ottawa's bailout of the auto industry, I don't recall what the Ontario government contributed. Also, the ROI of subsidies to the Ontario auto industry are at least tangible, seen in manufacturing jobs. I would argue the ROI of subsidizing entirely foreign built electrical cars is not equal to supporting our local industry.

Not to mention that Ontario's electric car subsidy supports some nasty mineral extraction practices in Africa, https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/n...ehind-smart-phone-and-electric-car-batteries/

No, and I make no claims to know. But you have Google like the rest of us, I suggest you look it up.
Are you kidding me?
I don't know you.

Sincere question, what kind of lag time did you have budgeted between receiving the windows and installation?

I see there allowance if that any signed contract will be honoured if installation has occurred by the end of August (which is just over 10 weeks away)

From their website:

If you’re already signed up for a rebate, it will be honoured if:

  • You have a signed work agreement with a participating contractor for work that will be completed by August 31, 2018
  • Your rebate application is submitted by September 30, 2018
Certainly not a robust timeline, a case could be made for longer.
Usually it's not this long but because GreenON was so insanely popular we have dozens of window installs that won't be done in time for the August deadline. We were supposed to have until end of December. It's $500 per window. Some customers are getting 10 windows, even more. So that's five grand more they're stuck paying in one shot. Without GreenON they might've just replaced a couple of windows here and there over the years. And they'd have bought less expensive windows. For GreenON they had to buy the highest efficiency windows, which are the most expensive. Doug used to hand out his personal cell and told everyone to call him. My wife's going to try to convince him to offer an extension. She's very convincing!

The Ontario government says the investment will create 300 new jobs at Ford in the province and protect hundreds more.
I'm okay what that.

Just watched CTV news, Doug was asked about the sale of cannabis :) Interesting response, of "we need to be careful - we have never been down this road before and of course he is concerned about protecting the children." Yup... selling from his mom's basement and momma in charge would be protection enough.

Our worst nightmare:

Don Cherry predicts Doug Ford will one day be PM

From link.

The Coach is in Ontario’s next premier’s corner.

And not only that, Don Cherry also predicts it won’t be long until the whole country is too.

“Doug Ford is my guy and I am telling you is going to be a great premier,” said Grapes.

“I think he is going to be so good, that he will one day he prime minister of Canada too.”

And the legendary hockey broadcaster said he told Doug this himself.

“I was so happy when he won (June 7th) I tried to get a hold of him to congratulate him but I couldn’t seem to get through,” said Cherry.

Well, he is also the one who said this:

“… I say he’s going to be the greatest mayor this city has ever seen, as far as I’m concerned, and put that in your pipe, you left-wing kooks. Thank you very much.”
...
“If he could just cut out all the rest of the stuff as a mayor, he’s done a great job, everybody thinks that, but I am disappointed…” Cherry told Sportsnet 590 The Fan on Monday morning.

Nuff said. Someone should tell him the Pride parade is only one day.
