Really? Then post the section of the Toronto Act and/or any other relevant act that pertains to special sessions.

Calling of meetings
191 Subject to the procedure by-law passed under section 189,

(a) the head of council may at any time call a special meeting; and

(b) upon receipt of a petition of the majority of the members of city council, the clerk shall call a special meeting for the purpose and at the time mentioned in the petition. 2006, c. 11, Sched. A, s. 191.

What is it that both you and Ford fail to understand about "for the purpose and at the time mentioned in the petition"?

Perhaps we need civic lessons on more than just tying shoelaces?
I haven't followed it that closely, but the quote above makes no mention of tacking guns onto the existing meeting. It is saying that a special meeting about guns is more needed than a meeting about something within the provincial jurisdiction. Also don't know if there is anything preventing another special meeting to be held.

This meeting should only last a few minutes. Legal Council will say no chance of success. Smart Councillors vote to drop the whole thing.

It's obvious you haven't been following it, making that point is redundant. Ford can petition for a new meeting. That's not what he's demanding.

I'd suggest reading the news to get the point...

Well, since you're a dyed in the wool Ford supporter, best I spoon feed this:

First two paragraphs of today's TorStar copy on it:
For the second time in two days, Premier Doug Ford has requested that Mayor John Tory take up “guns and gangs” at a special council meeting on Monday.

As it stands, the meeting’s agenda is centred on how, or whether, to fight the province’s move to cut the size of council almost in half. [...]

The City Clerk has already made the point crystal clear...well, clear for those that have the capacity to understand.
Legal Council (sic) will say no chance of success. Smart Councillors vote to drop the whole thing.
You really are unaware of the situation...

It was already discussed and approved at a previous session. Here's a video on it, so as to spare Ford worshippers the horror and pain of having to read:

Can't wait to hear Tory's response. "The Premier's comments are unacceptable" is incoming.

Ford was a councillor for 4 years and has no clue how things work.

It's obvious you haven't been following it, making that point is redundant. Ford can petition for a new meeting. That's not what he's demanding.

Perhaps he does know or has been made aware and is just trying the sabotage the meeting by demanding they discuss guns and violence instead of the council reduction and the legal road ahead. Just be prepared for the ramifications and ire of Herr Ford. We will punished!

All fodder to buttress Achampong's case. Since he's going to argue Constitutional Rights, Ford's incessant interference in legal procedure and protocol become relevant to his case, whereas proving non-compliance to provincial law would be difficult.

Ford's doing an excellent job of throwing his crank through the cylinder head. Don't know if the knives are out for him at OntCon HQ yet, but they'll be clutching kerchiefs to wipe away the tears. Whether that's from anger or laughing is the question...

As if it wasn't already clear, the man's an azzzzzz...and very adept at proving it time and again.

Again, I don't know all the rules. A quick search of internet. Council Handbook, Section 4.2. https://www.toronto.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/9558-handbook-volume2.pdf

Mayor can call special meeting on 24 hours notice.

So 1 special meeting to discuss legalities of challenging Provincial Jurisdiction. Should last a few minutes.

Another Special meeting on guns - if Tory would have acted earlier to allow the 24 hours notice.

+ If any murders happen in Toronto this weekend, it will just make Doug Ford look even more correct.

This becomes tiresome:
*(b) upon receipt of a petition of the majority of the members of city council, the clerk shall call a special meeting for the purpose and at the time mentioned in the petition. 2006, c. 11, Sched. A, s. 191.*

Ford doesn't want "another meeting". He wants this one, already petitioned for and singularly purposed as such. Ford wants whatever his greedy little peanut brain wants. The Law states otherwise.

And Thank God for that, because we're going to be seeing a very active judiciary slapping Ford's fat head...and literally make a hash out of Hash Man.

The direct correlation between inability to read and understand protocol by Ford and his supporters alike is unmistakable.

Maybe larger font will get the point across? Probably not:

Petitions must set out the purpose and the date and time of the meeting.

Written or electronic notice for the special meeting must state the business to be considered.

Don't see anything there preventing 2 meetings in 1 day.

There is nothing in the letter (posted above), or a direct quote in the Star article, that says the 1 meeting should discuss 2 topics. The letter does say that guns and gangs should have been a more urgent issue. It also says that the Tory should bring it to Council - which he could have done for Monday.

Essentially, 2 meetings in 1 day and 1 meeting on 2 topics are basically the same. 2 meetings in 1 day is just the legal technicality on how it could be done. Ford is not dictating the legal process on how it should get done - just that it should get done. And it can get legally done.

Tell that to Ford. It might help if you actually read the news stories.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford has sent a letter to Toronto Mayor John Tory that asks city council to address matching provincial funding to fight guns and gangs at its special council meeting on Monday.

City council is scheduled to discuss the legal options available to fight the Better Local Government Act. The bill, passed by the Ontario legislature this week, will reduce council seats to 25 from 47. The premier insists in his letter that the issue of gun violence should be added to the agenda as well. [...]
“I implore you, along with Toronto City Council to address this critical issue at your meeting on August 20th and add funding for guns and gangs to the City Council agenda,” Ford said.

I must be simple.

What exactly is city council supposed to do about guns?
Talk for hours about how something should be done by those who can actually do something about it?

Seems like a waste of time.

Parliament should be talking about guns. Good luck with that.

Maybe Doug is wanting to be a guest debater? Honestly nothing much can be done, other than raiding gangs, gambling & booze dens and perhaps for good measure Deco for suspected and alleged criminal activities.

In other news, it looks like Renata is fully moved out of the homestead. No furniture included - maybe the infamous basement couch is going up on eBay instead:

Oddly renovated, fresh coat of paint, carpet, new laminated floors, except the odd old wooden parquet flooring in the entrance. Ugly counters in the kitchen. So they are banking on the surrounding real estate which means it's a tear down to build a McMansion comes down to the question: is this lot truly worth 2 mil?

So another question, Robbie used to own a gun.... was it legal?

It’s almost certainly a tear down. And yes, the land is probably worth it.

If he had a gun, it was probably his dad’s that he never fired and didn’t know how to use.
