"Mayor Tory, we have a lot of homeless people on the streets, we should do somthing about it!"

He did, at the cost of $2m (nearly ⅓ of the city’s estimated cost of renaming Dundas), to clear out encampments.

money well spent, amiright?

Rename it to Governors Road (but change the designation to "street"), an alternate historic name which is still used between Hamilton (Dundas) and Paris.
Renaming it to a title might be okay. Others could be Lieutenant-Governor Street, Mayor Street, Premier Street, Prime Minister Street, Peasant Street, Commenter Street, Blogger Street, Trucker Street (maybe not that one after today), etc. We already have a Queen Street and King Street .

The woke has an interest in removing all the barriers that restrain their fantasies, the hubristic triumph of mind over matter: physical borders; definitions of words; local culture, mores, laws; family as the fundamental social unit; political structures that distribute rather than concentrate power; distinctions between adults/children/men/women; and on and on in a relentless attack on nature and on the wisdom hard won by man's awareness of his place in nature over thousands of years.

I think you've mistaken these forums for the local baptist church group.

I suggest setting aside right-wing hyperbole and concentrating on the issue at hand, which is the mere renaming of a street.

It is probably more helpful for all to avoid any discussion on this subject as if it were about history. It seems that some pretty heavyweight historians (do we not have any left in Canada?) have weighed in on the Edinburgh, Scotland review and called the distortion of history out for the nonsense that it is.

Renaming the street is less about history, and more about societal therapy. Maybe if we set up something that makes us all feel good about ourselves we can move forward as a society. The right can give the woke left a poke, the woke left can condescend the right. Everyone is a winner.

And seems appropriate to name it Rob Ford Street.

Look at all the "Washington" whatevers in the United States. From link.
George Washington was a slaveowner who had a complicated relationship with slavery. During his lifetime he controlled a total of over 577 slaves, who were forced to work on his farms and wherever he lived, including the President's House in Philadelphia. As president, he signed laws passed by Congress that both protected and curtailed slavery. His will said that one of his slaves, William Lee, should be freed upon his death, and that the other 123 slaves must work for his wife and be freed on her death. She freed them during her lifetime to remove the incentive to hasten her death.

He endeavored to assimilate Native Americans into the Anglo-American culture. However, he waged military campaigns against hostile Native American nations during the Revolutionary War, and the Northwest Indian War. He was a member of the Anglican Church and the Freemasons, and he urged broad religious freedom in his roles as general and president.

Washington has been memorialized by monuments, a federal holiday, various media depictions, geographical locations, including the national capital, the State of Washington, stamps, and currency, and many scholars and ordinary Americans alike rank him among the greatest U.S. presidents. In 1976 Washington was posthumously promoted to the rank of General of the Armies of the United States, the highest rank in the United States Army.

Bethlehem names street in Putin's honour

From link. Dated 2012.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was surprised when told that a street in Bethlehem was named in his honour.

Mahmoud Abbas, head of the Palestinian National Authority, told Putin Tuesday that the mayor of Bethlehem has decided to name a street in the city after Putin because it would show how much the Palestinians value the Russian president and the Russian people...

In Russia, they changed the names of cities several times.Saint Petersburg was changed to Petrograd in 1914, then changed to Leningrad in 1924, then changed back to Saint Petersburg in 1991.

Maybe we should have a ranked-ballot referendum to rename Dundas Street. Better than a first-past-the-ballot referendum.

(Putin Boulevard or Zelensky Boulevard? Hmmm.)

There is a Av. du Président-Kennedy in Montréal.
