Archeological remains dating back to 400 BC to 600 AD? That’s incredible. But why not just wave our hands dismissively and say that Canada has no history?
Don't want to derail the thread, 1. I never said Canada has no history 2. To me personally, how many tens of thousands of hours of peoples lives (through delays) is something worth? 2 years of delays means millions of hours people could spend with their kids were wasted in traffic.

Obviously there is a balance!

And all I've been trying to say is, through our history, the scales are already severely tipped out of balance against indigenous peoples. 2 years of delay on an infrastructure project is nothing compared to what has been taken away from them.

IMO nobody's life will be (measurably) improved having whatever artifacts are under there. For me this is true of any country in the world! I heard there were decades of delays in Thessaloniki. Peoples time is infinitely more valuable then sentimental value

Thessaloniki was delayed by years due to a multitude of discoveries. Having toured many of these discoveries, considering them of sentimental value does not qualify. The joke In T was that if they had just dug the line a bit deeper, many of these discoveries would have remained undiscovered.

But the same situation exists in many areas of Europe and Asia, where layers of civilization, a built civilization of materials not so prone to decomposing lies. The ELizabeth line for example, projects in Turkey etc. They have all had to deal with and have dealt with the finds discovered when shovels begin working.

You have stated that 'nobody's life will be (measurably) improved'. I have to assume you direct this comment from an economic point of view only. Otherwise it does not really stand up. In this country we do not have so many opportunities to discover and explore what came before us, whether we can claim First Nations heritage or we arrived sometime later. So we should make the most of the opportunity presented.

In this case the QEW is still 3 lanes in each direction, traffic still flows, and the bridge will open. Its not really a crisis situation.

It looks like the new QEW Toronto on-ramp at Mississauga Road is almost done. It will have a traffic light similar to the on ramp at Cawthra.

Here is the on-ramp that @mtomo mentioned. You can clearly see the stop line half way.

All of the Mississauga road components of this project are complete. The last remaining trailers located on the southbound side just north of the QEW and have been removed and landscaping done. Trail entrances on the north side have been finished for quite some time. We are literally just waiting for some history to be uncovered, the last pieces of the pedestrian bridge to be completed and final paving done on that stretch.

Wow so that’s why the eastbound span got delayed? If so to 2026?

I'm hopeful it'll wrap up soon enough, but that archeological site doesn't look close to completion. We'll have to see. Once they get the all clear it shouldn't take too long to clean the site up, do paving, and open the bridge.

There been no changes to the ramp area on the south side since January and saw no tents on site but could be in another area.

Archeological excavation appears to continue.. the site is still regularly busy with staff.

Interesting how the MTO 511 camera has "blacked out" the excavation area:

So is that why construction has paused and how long it was paused after it was discovered for?
I think it was discovered in the spring. I admit it's been longer than I anticipated to complete the archeological dig. I too wonder what it is - it's been months of archeological crews on the site every day.

I thought it was the remnants of a very old settlement so perhaps that is why it is taking as long as it is. Nevertheless, every time i have flown over it, it has always been inactive so I'm not sure how vigorously it is being worked.
