Right now you can only use this trick westbound, at least to such dramatically great effect. In the eastbound direction, you can use the Winston Churchill exit to bypass some traffic as there is a sort of mini-collector there as well, but you merge back with traffic after Winston Churchill, so you don't get quite as much of a jump.How To Bypass Traffic Backup At Winston Churchill
If you use the 401 in both direction daily or sometime, I assume you can do this in both direction as I did this for westbound since I never use the eastbound. You use the off ramp to Winston Churchill that has 2 lanes, but use the south one as goes under the overpass as well the 407 overpasses. It then goes under the 407 flyover that connects to the westbound 401 lanes. You will then rejoin the westbound traffic that is starting see higher speed than it had been seeing.
Widening pretty much ends past 25, there is very little to see there.Hard too see what is taking place west of 25 and need to be on the 401 to see it.
