Having just traveled the route this weekend, why does the RIRO section of Highway 11 between Barrie and Gravenhurst (and to some extent 35/115 RIRO section) look so "dumpy"
Not all parts of course, there are some newer and well kept homes and business, however for a fair amount of those routes the occupied homes and businesses look "old and dumpy"
The abandoned homes and businesses are just a real eyesore. These routes lead to some of the most beautiful areas of the Province, but the way to get there looks just awful.
Agree/disagree?
Ya, it's pretty embarrassing. The alignment remains unchanged from the time before the centre barrier was installed and left turns were allowed between the mid-70s and early 80s. Since nothing else changed, there was no need to expropriate any business or residence; they still had legal access to the highway. The problem for businesses was they lost half of the traffic. That's why Webers installed the bridge.

Has there been any discussion of the widening thru Oshawa of 401 to 10 lanes? I'd like to discuss and view posts about it.

MTO has been redoing all the bridges in Oshawa for it - the plan is to ultimately extend the collector - express lanes to the 412 then 10 lanes to the 418, and 8 lanes to 35.

There isn’t formal funding to actually do the widening itself, but MTO has the last of the bridge replacements for it scheduled over the next ~5 years.
