Indeed part of the problem is that few of the councillors are willing to speak up against what is going on. If Ford had been in management at any private/public company (besides his own) he would have been turfed out a long time ago for any of the number of racist/sexist things he's said.

Yes. There are reports out almost every week now of a variety of poor upper/middle-management schmucks getting fired for sending out an inappropriate tweet or facebook comment. And still Rob continues to spew...

If the City no longer has confidence that an employee has the judgment to perform a job of high skill and responsibility, the result could be dismissal.

As an example, last year an Ontario arbitrator upheld the dismissal of a Toronto paramedic after his judgment was called into question due to off-duty conduct.

He was sitting in his car with two 16 year old girls who were drinking beer and smoking cigarettes he had provided. By all accounts, there was no physical contact.

Ten years on the department with a discipline free record. No criminal charges, not even a traffic ticket. But, it cost him his career.

What democratic process? FPTP is only illusorily democratic.

1. No, it's not an illusion. It might not be your favourite form of a democratic government, but it's a democratic government. People who don't like FPTP need to work on lobbying for change, rather than just pissing and moaning and calling the system 'fixed'.

2. We elect the Mayor directly, and there's no party system at the municipal level.

3. So, your premise is wrong, and your example is specious.

On the other hand, I think the 'outraged at Ford' vote would definitely welcome a candidate who promised to give the Integrity Commissioner teeth and/or pledge to lobby the province to provide a recall measure of some type for our Council. We should be able to get rid of a drug-addled Mayor without having to wait four years. Has any candidate proposed such a thing?
