not that this answers the doug sr swim questions, but...

A talented athlete, he played football for the East York Argonauts and attempted to swim Lake Ontario in the same crossing that turned Marilyn Bell into the nation’s darling, but it was a job as a lifeguard that changed his fortunes. At the pool, he met a statuesque blond swimmer named Diane, who became the mother of his four children and, not incidentally, a driving force behind his success.

except:

No mention of Doug Ford Sr, but it also doesn't mention how many competitors began the swim. It does however mention two other swimmers and doesn't seem to imply that there were others.

This one very clearly says that only two other swimmers took part:

I'm going to guess that they got the info from the Fords or from the wikipedia page.

(also eta that I didn't notice the "not" in the first sentence about answering the Doug Ford swimming question, my bad)

Back in my day at City Hall, the chief of staff used to take care of everyone’s entertainment bills.

Some guy later told me that *he* was the one who paid the Royal York tab. Some guy named Toey.

Toey later got angry at the suggestion he was involved in my private, after-hours escalades.

I told Toey he was always over-reactionary to everything.

GFL truck 7794 (AC-10005) attempts aggressive illegal overtake on SB Symington

... and a cyclist disobeys a stop sign.

Not sure of the Ford link, though.

Rob Ford a fan of GFL garbage pickup

As for east of Yonge Street, Mayor Ford says he doesn’t need to see any data. He thinks similar savings can be replicated.

"GFL has done a phenomenal job in everything west of Yonge. I want to see it go east of Yonge,” he said. “I’ll be very, very, very shocked if this report says that we should keep it in house and it will save money. So, my mind is made up.”

Garbage collector GFL's safety rating downgraded

The provincial government has downgraded the safety rating of the company that collects Toronto household waste west of Yonge St. — largely because of a spate of incidents during the rocky first three months of its contract, city and company officials say.

Yes, of course, I'm THAT BLOODY DENSE that I didn't want to make the utterly tenuous link between the inconsiderate driver of random vehicle on the road and Rob Ford.

What a stretch.

I bet the city-run trucks are perfect citizens of the road.

It's probably the best choice in this thread. I was never much of a fiction writer.

Surely you can do better than that. It's, like, two dots which must be put together. You're no Alice Atwood, fer sure. Maybe more doughnut 'shoppes' than 'liberries' in your neck?

Also, RE: 'swimming'. Hardly seems a Ford forte. Especially the duration type. Not really an endomorphic thing. Especially when you've the added weight of resentment, self-satisfaction and entitlement

a bit offtopic, but near and dear to my heart

go to 937 danforth avenue (used to be a jamaican patty place, not sure about recently)

go around to the back of it

ta da!! you're on ben kerr lane

used to love stopping to listen to him sing at yonge and bloor

now, back to your regularly scheduled rob forb nonsense

Nah, just a lot of organic grocery 'shoppes' and new restaurants. Thankfully, we still have an indie book 'shoppe' down the street and a small but nice library.

The newest doughnut store in our neighbourhood is a favourite of at least one of the Fords, though Galaxy seems more their speed.

Whoa, polluted, why so tense?
Are you on Quack?

Yes.

right... one truck...

The spotty track record is merely the latest, um, strike against GFL: before the company won the City deal, its waste management group had run into trouble in other jurisdictions, including Hamilton and Kawartha Lakes, while the company’s clean fill/excavation division has attracted complaints and regulatory reprimands east of the GTA.

This past winter, municipal politicians in six northern York Region municipalities took GFL to task after its trucks failed to collect the garbage during a bad-weather run in December. As one Whitchurch-Stoufville councillor told a YorkRegion.com reporter: “It was really disturbing the lack of communication between the staff at GFL, they basically unplugged their phone lines and left our staff and residents out to dry.” GFL CEO Patrick Dovigi had to appear at one council meeting to show his contrition.

[...]

Last year, according to the judgment, GFL’s vehicle safety violation rate nosed above the 70% rate, meriting a downgrading of the ORMV rating from “satisfactory” to “conditional.” As the ruling points out, “the vast majority of Ontario’s nearly 55,000 [commercial vehicle operator registration (CVOR) certificate] holders have overall violation rates of 70% or less. 95.6% of holders have safety ratings equal to or below 35%. Only 0.6% of operators have an overall violation rate of over 70%.” Which is to say, GFL was in pretty shabby company.
