oh, me too - we're in agreement here! i understand that the people issuing the permit are just civil servants doing their job, but i wonder if they're considering how many people will see their decision and just say "screw it - there's a clear double-standard and the rules don't apply to some people." it's this kind of thing that really kills voter turnout and general civic engagement.

People need to show up and document everything to prove that campaigning will happen.

At the risk of displaying Fordian IQ levels... Any particular reason?
(I like the whole thread staying as one, BTW)
It's been a bit of divisive issue, but more of the Admin/Mods felt it was better as one giant thread, even though its somewhat harder to moderate because of its size. Personally, I think it's fairly legendary in Toronto political circles and is just better as one whole thread in terms of people finding and referencing it.

Here's some more fun stuff on Mikey's flight history:

The plane in his facebook photo is a single-engine Cessna Caravan with tail C-FCWS:

C-FCWS has been kicking around since 2009, in both standard and float plane arrangement:
http://www.abpic.co.uk/search.php?q=C-FCWS&u=reg

There is no record of it on FlightAware for the last four months, but that's not a surprise since private aircraft aren't tracked as thoroughly as commercial flights. However, note that FA lists the plane's owner as 1711169 Ontario Ltd.:
https://flightaware.com/live/flight/CFCWS

1711169 Ontario Ltd. operates as Lake Country Airways (you can see part of their logo on the tail of the plane in Mikey's pic). Lake Country Airways has been fined a number of times over the last few years for operating an unapproved pilot training program:
- In 2012/13, subject to a restraining order by the Ministry of Colleges & Universities and fined $4,000 for claiming to be a vocational (flight) school
- In 2011, one of their planes crashed with an instructor and student on board (no injuries, not Mikey)
- In 2010, subject to a restraining order by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities for claiming to offer vocational (flight) training

In other words, Mikey got his flight training from the best training school in the country which is - you guessed it - not actually a flight training school.

Discuss.

ETA: There is no excuse for white socks and shorts. None.

There is a difference between a flight school and a "vocational" flight school.

Still sleazy though, no?

"A designate of the Superintendent of Private Career Colleges (the “Designate”) reviewed the website of 1711169 Ontario Ltd. operating as Lake Country Airways (the “School”) at http://lakecountryairways.ca and found that the School was advertising an unapproved commercial pilot licence (“CPL”) training program. The website provided details of the program including its length and cost. The Designate, posing as a prospective student, corresponded with the School by email and spoke with a representative of the School on the telephone. The School told the Designate that it could offer him CPL training and advised him about specific Transport Canada requirements for the CPL."

Good one JWBF!
Has anyone let the media know about this sudden change in name? I suspect they might be interested in the timing of Mikey becoming a pedigree Ford.

Not surprising at all, the owners must be friends of the family in some way, or the Fords are "financial" supporters.

i think that he has called himself Ford for some time, such that the question is why he needed, or if did not need wanted, to change his legal name to Ford recently.

(Just wondering, without researching - does a candidate have to prove his or her legal name when registering to run? could he get his MD Ford vanity plate without proof of his legal name? And of course he might of done it just to show how much he appreciates having been bought and paid for by Unca Doug.)

Vocational schools teach courses specifically for careers in their training. So one is for pleasure and the other is for commercial certification.

Any info on Jeffrey Mavor? Connected to the Fords some other way?

Still sleazy though, no?[\QUOTE]

Oh yes - but it does not make a non-CPL program licence from the school illegitimate. The report you quoted does not suggest that the school is unable to teach on a non-CPL basis - I.e., it does not seem to be the flight school equivalent of 'fauxhab', as some here seem to be suggesting.

To be honest, I can understand changing it to Ford rather than using Stirpe, but the timing stinks. At least none of the Fords have committed murder. That we know of anyway.
