Speaking of Dixon.... the double murder on Sunday morning:

Toronto police have identified the two men, both 26, who were shot dead in an condo unit near West Queen West early Sunday morning.

Abdiweli Abdullahi and Mohamed Abdiwal Dirie, both of Toronto, were found dead in an apartment on the 22nd floor of the Edge at Triangle Park condo building at 36 Lisgar St. around 7 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Dirie was one of dozens arrested in the Project Traveller raids in 2013, police confirmed.

Project Traveller, which was launched in 2012 and targeted alleged gang members and drug dealers, became well-known in Toronto after police recovered a video of former mayor Rob Ford smoking crack cocaine during the investigation.

Also, late last night, a guy was shot at 390 Dixon:

do we know if mohamed dirie is related to ahmed dirie?

as for abdiweli abdullahi, he popped up in the news quite a bit. examples...
On June 7, 2009, Ayoob Aden, 16, was stabbed to death at 340 Dixon Rd., one of a collection of Toronto apartment buildings that is home turf for the Dixon Bloods. Abdikadir Khan and Abdi-Weli Abdullahi, two other young men, were also stabbed. They survived.

That sounds like BS to me. Someone just throwing "320 Dixon" in there for effect. Totally different people living in those towers in the 80s. (Not saying some of them weren't drug dealers too, but what are the odds that the same address is a factor twice with different people, 30 years apart?)

I wouldn't be surprised--the inherent "anonymity" of rental high-rises can have a way of nurturing bad-appledom. (Maybe the recent Queen-Dovercourt shooting's the modern version thereof.) Also, I remember going to a basement party in that complex c1980 (the kind where your typical Dazed & Confused stuff was happening--I, myself, was too dumb and innocent; but who knows, maybe Randy was there)--and intuitively bailed out a back door once the word spread of a police raid. Maybe the only time I ever dodged a police-raided party.

And besides, who knows if the towers acquiring a "bad rep" is what led to the kind of tenant flight that led to them becoming Little Somalia.

320 Dixon aren't rentals. Here's one listing for an apartment there: http://www.remax.ca/on/toronto-real-estate/1509-320-dixon-rd-treb_w3173848-lst/
Unless it's a mixed building?
no I made the same mistake in 2013. they aren't rentals, they are condos. Of course, there can be leasing of units going on within, but it's not a 'rental building' per se.

someone has gone to the trouble of creating an extremely detailed history of 320-340 Dixon on this website:

I went to Pride once and there was one small group of old dudes who were totally naked. Not nearly as rampant as Dougie etc make it out to be. But I was shocked police allow this. Isn't it illegal to be totally nude in public? lol

Usually, yes. But the Pride parade has a history in protest, and being naked can also be used as form of protest. Hence, nudity at Pride is allowed.

Seems silly that public nudity is still illegal in this day and age; it just perpetuates body shame and it's not like many people would just walk around naked on any given day anyhow.

Exactly zang. Public nudity on a one off basis (like, just how often do you see this?) is far, far less of an issue than, I don't know, jaywalking or rolling stops - which are illegal and comes with the potential for fatalities. So really, it's much to do about nothing. Frankly, it's rather common in Nordic countries, as a matter of course and they haven't degenerated into amoral cesspools.

I know you are joshing, but it is worth saying that McN does not even bother with the pretence we are seeing from Brown's declaring himself to be "inclusive" and "progressive", and so (amongst other virtues in the eyes of FN) McN would never attend a Pride event.

Yeah, it seems like there's a rift in the PCPO regarding social issues. While this Kelly character was pitching a foul-mouthed fit on Twitter about Shelley Carroll supposedly ignoring nudity and other 'degenerate' displays (it seems she was in a hurry to find a washroom, and the photo was taken by former council candidate and all-round pro-Ford weasel Paul Bell), Sue-Ann Levy was marvelling at the number of conservatives in attendance.

With all of those people and cameras I'd be terrified of experience shrinkage and, thus, under-representing myself for all the city to see!

Somehow I have a feeling that said crowd have any fears about under-representing themselves. You know, the old adage about nude beaches and all.
