"Man who filmed Rob Ford crack video pleads guilty to gun, drug offences"

http://www.thestar.com/news/crime/2...video-pleads-guilty-to-gun-drug-offences.html
Along with several members of Siad’s family, Alexander “Sandro” Lisi was also present in the courtroom before attending his own brief court appearance in a different courtroom.

Siad is one of the two men Lisi, Ford’s friend and occasional driver, was initially charged with extorting to obtain the crack video.

The charge in relation to Siad was dropped, but Lisi still faces an extortion charge related to Liban Siyad with a trial date to be set Thursday.
[...]
Police documents show the crack video and a second selfie-style video of Siad taken later that night were seized by police during the raids.

more details are in the sun...
Lisi was in the University Avenue courthouse for a brief appearance to set a date for his extortion trial for allegedly threatening violence against Siyad to recover the notorious video in May 2013. A charge of extorting Siad had previously been dropped. Lisi will be back in court Thursday before Justice Anne Molloy when a tentative trial date could be set.

Woodbine casino expansion won’t affect crime levels, says top cop Supt. Ron Taverner
Toronto police Supt. Ron Taverner, unit commander of 23 Division, said he expects continued low levels of crime with Woodbine’s expansion.

“Given the partnerships we have with Woodbine Entertainment on the corporate side, with the security people, and with our colleagues who work with the OPP there, we feel very confident Woodbine will maintain a very low level of any significant violence at all,” Taverner said.

“There is probably more violence at shopping malls than at a place that attracts six-million people a year. Kudos to them."

That is a good article. I sent it to some American friends on Facebook.

Ford hasn't got any noticeable attention since that council meeting. Even the day in court wasn't covered all that much.

Ah, what a nice Christian couple hanging out with a violent (unrepentant) criminal.

1 Corinthians 13:
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.

So he actually went into Siad's room to watch him get convicted? That's pretty gangsta. Must be a bit gratifying for him to watch that.
I had a different take on that altogether. After the extortion charges were dropped as related to Siad, I figured they got into cahoots. A couple of your posts seem to indicate a grudging respect for Sandro's courage. You say gangster like its a good thing?

I was being sarcastic. It reminds me of Stringer I think it was in The Wire when he quietly sat in the courtroom to intimidate people on the stand.

The extortion part was courageous of him--cowardly and weaselish on Ford's part though.

Since he's the guy who actually took the video, Siad is very likely to be a witness at Lisi's extortion trial. So, either Lisi just gets a kick out of watching people get sentenced, or he was sending Siad a message, since it's probably the last time he'll be seeing him before that TBD court date.

Cops have a similar trick when one of their own is on trial, they show up en masse and in uniform and intimidate the hell of witnesses and jurors.
