I can't speak for the Western beaches, I live in the east end - and haven't tried their food. Like most locals, I've eaten at the Boardwalk Pub once. Food's overpriced and terrible to boot.....You can walk ten minutes and get better food for cheaper at half a dozen locations.

so speak with your feet and pocket book.
no one is forcing you to stay if it's only a ten minute walk and it's cheaper elsewhere !

BREAKING - EXPLOSIVE ALLEGATIONS!: Mayor Ford impaired at military event in February

http://www.680news.com/2013/03/26/mayor-ford-impaired-at-military-event-in-february-report/

Another day another scandal! LOL!

Kevin Donovan of the Toronto Star who broke the story is being interviewed on Newstalk 1010 right now

http://www.newstalk1010.com/

UPDATE: Kevin Donovan is alleging that Rob Ford is an alcoholic.

HEADLINE: Inner circle repeatedly urged Mayor to enter rehab!

Toronto Star Front Page: http://torontostar.newspaperdirect.com/epaper/viewer.aspx#.UVFql_rgR3s.twitter

Star investigation: Rob Ford's Battle with Alcohol: http://www.thestar.com/news/city_ha...ronto_mayor_asked_to_leave_military_ball.html

It’s an open secret at city hall that the mayor has battled alcohol abuse. Those closest to him are concerned for his health and the impact it has on his job as mayor of Canada’s largest city. Current and former staff have told the Star of repeated attempts to persuade the mayor to get help for more than two years and as recently as November. All attempts have been rebuffed.

He looks drunk (this was taken a year ago apparently near the bier markt). View attachment 11451

Its not even like its just a city hall reporter breaking this story (who theoretically could have political bias concerning their work given The Star being a liberal newspaper). Kevin Donovan, one of the two reporters who wrote this story, broke ORNGE and the TDSB pencil sharpeners ($143 charges) story (to name a few but he's been with The Star for decades). On top of that its a pretty extensive group of people who at various points in the last few years have said Ford was drunk (at various events).

For the record Doug Holyday (on Newstalk 1010) has said he has never seen Ford drunk or heard about it (or a drinking problem).

The pandas should have been on the front page of my morning paper, and instead I see that buffoon with yet another scandal brewing. When does it end?

Holyday seems like the kind of guy who goes to bed at 9pm after having a warm glass of milk. Does he much socializing with Ford outside of city hall?

Doug Holyday will have to be living in a cave to not realize something is up.

In any case, the ball is in Rob Ford's court, as always. Anyone taking bets whether he will do the right thing(s)?

Ramako:

Considering his worship's attendance and schedule, I am not sure if Ford does much socializing inside City Hall.

I'm almost certain cocaine is part of this equation. It allows you to sober up and extend your drinking...if you have the connections and pockets deep enough to buy some regularly, why not? It may explain his apparent sweatiness during his drunken incidents.

North 44:

Personally I wouldn't be so definitive about that aspect - but there are lots of circumstantial links that taken together seems to point to a very troubling picture of *something* going on - the persistent rumours of involvement with previous drug use, DUI in Florida, the offer to purchase Oxycontin, the inexplicable disappearances, outbursts, and other strange, oddball behaviour. Like seriously if it was any other person in the real world it would have been flagged long ago. Certainly anyone in a normal workplace probably wouldn't have gotten away from the scrutiny that would have entailed.

At this point in time, there are colleagues of Ford who are just shuddering. Couple this public intoxication stuff with the pro-casino rousing in an inappropriate place, and you've got what amounts to a very public meltdown. Yet all the while, there will be electors who still defend Ford.

So I wonder, how many electors are left out there actually willing to have Ford continue to represent our city one more time? Probably very few, as of this morning, with this news going out today. And it will get more public, this alcoholism stuff. Surely some of Ford's backers can start (now) to persuade him that it is in his interests, and the city's interests, that he cooperate and let another right wing candidate step forward. Ford is toast now, but he doesn't realize it.

I think from this day forward it becomes a more serious game. It was a chuckle this morning, at first blush, but it's not funny now. I can't understand anyone now willing to trust Ford with policymaking, and with holding public office, given ample evidence of his terrible judgment, but yup, there will be votes for 'im.

You can't make this stuff up.

There's little question he has a drinking problem.

The questions concern "what now?" - if handled well, Ford can salvage his career. He'll hardly be the first Canadian politican with a drinking problem (John A. Macdonald, Rene Levesque, Ralph Klein, Gordon Campbell and so forth), and many of the above publicly admitted to their problem, for others they were open secrets. This isn't the end of his political career.

But he has to admit to it and show humility - two things he has trouble doing.

ST:

There are some fundamental questions - first, he need to seek treatment, which is something he had steadfastly refused to do (then again, the admission of "the problem" hasn't even happened yet), and second, there is the matter of fitness to govern - by all accounts that aspect has gotten tenuous and important decisions will have to be made soon on a variety of matter (least of all, the transit file). Is the leadership vacuum acceptable?

Quite frankly for him to crap out at a military ball is really the worst thing one can do from his handler's perspective - they are probably a friendly crowd, and the disrespect/lapse of judgement won't be forgotten easily.

He'll never admit he has a substance abuse problem. It's one of the hardest things for someone with a problem to admit: That they're not strong, and they actually need help.

Considering Rob Ford's supporters went after George Smitherman for his problems during the election, I wonder how they'll deal with the fact their beloved Rob Ford has problems too?

At least George was balls enough to admit his problems.

You're probably right, even if his handlers try to convince him that this is his best option. It will give him lots of sympathy and get plenty of goodwill and time needed to dry out. Political foes will be silenced for a while, anyone who makes fun of him for this publicly will be chastised.

While he remains in deny mode, more skeletons will be sought, if he speaks up and admits it, all that stops for now (unless something new and different is dug up).
