Fate of Toronto’s Garden of the Greek Gods hangs in the balance
The future of public sculptures — fenced off from view at Muzik nightclub and reduced to a bargaining chip in lease negotiations — is uncertain.
While still the property of the city, they’re also considered part of the “grounds” leased out by Muzik, according to the terms of its lease with Exhibition Place. That means the injured artworks can’t be removed for display without the club’s consent.

Consent from Starkovski remains the prime obstacle. He suggested the gods are “key to the marketing plan” and told Exhibition Place staff and board chair Coun. Mark Grimes last spring that “Muzik was not willing to consider removal of the sculptures,” the September report states, paraphrasing Starkovski.

Did Ford do anything to upstage Trudeau's visit today? I saw a number of councillors who met him when he was here but nothing from big mouth.
 
He was totally quiet, has been since those few days when Wormington was posting about him every few hours.
 
Tories consider kicking off leadership race next month
The party is weighing a February start date for the campaign, with a leadership convention likely set for the spring of 2017 but possibly as early as November of this year, according to a source familiar with the discussion.

Some are concerned that unless the rules for the campaign are set before the Conservatives’ annual convention, scheduled for May in Vancouver, the event could turn into an unregulated free-for-all, with candidates spending money to woo delegates before the race has formally begun.

There are also concerns that some contenders to succeed former prime minister Stephen Harper have already begun to incur costs exploring their chances of making a successful bid, with some even holding focus groups. These costs could create compliance issues with Elections Canada down the road.

Former Conservative cabinet ministers Jason Kenney and Peter MacKay are still considered the leading contenders should they enter the race, but there are growing doubts that either will.

Kenney is being courted to move to provincial politics in an attempt to unite Alberta’s right-wing parties, the Progressive Conservatives and the Wild Rose party.

MacKay, who announced last year that he was leaving federal politics to join a law firm and would not stand for re-election, was the clear favourite in two separate polls conducted in November. But he is continuing to pursue lucrative jobs in the corporate sector and will be difficult to lure back to federal politics.

That leaves a field of less-favoured contenders, led by former cabinet ministers Lisa Raitt, Maxime Bernier, Tony Clement and Kellie Leitch. Alberta MP Michelle Rempel and former Toronto city councillor Doug Ford have also been mentioned as leadership hopefuls.
