Story has gone international. BBC is reporting on it. I can't wait to see the headlines about Toronto's mayor being arrested on papers around the world.

Okay, beyond the fact that the accusation was wrong, how about:

Rob Ford not showing up at work during work hours (vis-a-vis his annual salary) and does not provide an iota of evidence as to his availability.
Rob Ford demanding preferential treatment, and using city resources for private benefit (i.e. the 50th anniversary bash, the TTC emergency bus)
Rob Ford using city paid staff for private benefit (i.e. intern car trips for this coaching work).

Severe crime on society, you say?

AoD

Hey, no arguments from me on those abuses, but I was just comparing this particular instance.

Of all of those, I think the TTC bus fiascal is probably by far the biggest abuse of power.

I'd think that the guy who took this tape might be feeling threatened for exposing the clients and activities of these dealers. Perhaps he'll refuse to release it just to lay low and save his own skin.

This guy should have just asked for a reasonable amount of money from the beginning. Now that the news has broke, I doubt he's going to get paid or stay anonymous amid this media circus.

its disturbing to think there is only one copy of this thing. i hope he doesn't delete it in a panic. its way bigger than him at this point. one would hope that the police already have the phone in their possession.

worst case scenario is that the video never sees the light of day, and we get involved in a 'he said-he said' with Ford doing his 'the Star is out to get me' routine, and the angry knuckleheads rally behind him all over again. i know its doubtful at this point but its a scary thought.

Knock knock. John Tory, you're up!

We need someone responsible to run on the right, and he's the only one I can think of right now. I was still grudgingly supporting the mayor up until I woke up this morning to this latest one.

In a perfect world I didn't want Ford to run next time, but this has to be the final nail in his coffin. He may not be charged, but if the video's real (I think it is at this point), even he can't survive.

And no Doug Ford, at any level of government. He's the truly dangerous one.

Didn't we warn you? And you people still voted this idiot in even when you fully knew his history. Nobody should be surprised by this. So many here on UT predicted that he'd be forced out of office early because of some scandal.

Every media source outside of Canada has it in for Ford. I have yet to see a single article outside of Canada that has anything positive to say about him.

Yep, it's a vast international pro-gravy conspiracy...

Man, why is it when the city gets international attention, it is for our mayoral buffoons? (I suppose one way to prevent that is to stop electing buffoons, but still...)

seriously?? a 23 year old story about a supposed abuse of subsidized housing? that's what you've got?

you are either seriously jaded, deeply cynical, or incredibly naive if you think this story can be conveniently slotted into the category of "random Rob Ford shenanigans", or that somehow this is going to be seen as the Star "crying wolf one too many times". it broke on one of the most high profile websites in the United States, and is blowing up internationally moment by moment.

Oh, I'm not doubting the accuracy of this story. I'm more than sure Rob Ford did smoke crack at that instance. I'm just saying maybe noone expects him to be this polished perfect politician. And this is just another one of his 'personal' gaffs.

Now if he pushed through a Casino, then that would be an election issue.

Would I vote for a more polished candidate like Karen Stintz, Josh Colle, John Tory? In a heart-beat. Kathleen Wynn (if she lost her leadership), Glen Murray, heck, There's a long list of people I would vote for. But if it's Olivia Chow vs Ford, I'd have to hold my breath and perhaps vote for Ford again. I even Voted for Miller in his first term!

Good for you do you want a ribbon or something? Given what I knew at the time of the election, he was the least bad choice.

I think that's what the Ford's strategy is going to be- get rid of the evidence. He might even get help from the higher-ups.

I surprised the Star didn't just cough up $100,000 for the video. They're a pretty big company, right? Now they've run a story and the evidence is at risk of being destroyed; this could go very badly.

Wait, committing felony drug possession is now just a "gaff" and lack of "polish"? Hard drug use by a manager of a city of 4 million, who oversees a huge budget of public money, is simply an "imperfection"? Boy, your standards sure are low...

I've been hearing about news about to break from a source who's been 100% correct every time he's given me a tip. After the nature of the scandal was blown open by Gawker, I called my source and he gave me further details. The police has seen the video or is aware of its contents and there's no way Ford will get away with no charges. He's the Mayor and has connections to a criminal drug ring even if just as a regular buyer. Like I said, "This is a big fucking deal". There's a very strong indication that this will end with Ford led away in cuffs.

I don't think the police in this city have the kidneys to do the right thing and charge Ford right now. It's hard enough in this country to get convictions for drug possession -- on top of that the cops have always known they had a friend in the Fords. Only a massive public outcry will lead to charges and even then they'll be laid reluctantly.

Speaking of sources -- I have a friend at the media who told me six months ago that the Globe was sitting on several independent eyewitness accounts of Ford's cocaine use (no video mind you). They were afraid to run the story then, but now that this has broken wide open...
