Behind the scenes video from last night's debate on City News. Every candidate in their green room is polished and professional. Then we see Ford's green room. The theme from Rocky is blaring. Doug complains that the room is too hot, because Tory is on Roger's board. The youngest Ford (can't remember his name, sorry) was asked if he was running in an election and he said he couldn't confirm or deny but that he would be learning from the best. Good Lord.....

If anyone really wants to get dirty with Robbie, the way to do it is through his family. Would the number of 911 calls to his house be considered public knowledge?

"You claim to be a great dad, yet your children Stephanie and Little Dougie live in a home in which there are constant calls to 911 and visits by the emergency services. Do you think that is the right environment for two young children? In many families, children in those circumstances would be removed from their homes for their own wellbeing."

I think attacking his failed policies would be a better strategy than bringing up his personal life.

I made a joke here about Ford using the Rocky theme. Can't say I'm surprised.

So I don't follow 20 pages of this thread a day.

What is up with Metro Man's tweets from yesterday? No follow up? Can we begin ignoring him now?

Live streaming of tonight's debate is here:

So far, the format is way way better than last night. All candidates are doing much better except for Rob Ford. A student asked him about drunken stupors and he came back with the "I'm not perfect line" and the room erupted in laughter. He continued on and so did the laughter.

First, I am not endorsing sweetlou, or others that might have sinester intents.

Second, anyone who has willingly, and openly helped Ford with his career, and his games IMHO have opened themselves to scrutiny, and has joined the game. The best examples are Dougie and the family company Deco.

You basically said it yourself - "if you can't afford to". If you or your family are struggling to survive just on your own, why the hell would you have a kid? I mean, gosh, if you can barely make the rent you shouldn't go out and buy a 60 inch plasma TV on credit. People do, though, and they have kids when they have no hope of providing for them in the immediate future, and I completely reserve the right to judge people for doing that.

How do you know a tv someone has was bought new - or if it was a gift from a family member?

There used to be a time by the way when credit card companies were not allowed to issue cards to people who could not afford to pay them off. Banks did not give lines of credit to people who made minimum wage. Now they do and it's had the effect of locking many people into a cycle of payday loans and lifetime poverty just so bankers and shareholders can get rich. It robs them of the opportunity to have a family or take vacations, buy tv's etc. Ours is a society that generates want, glorifies consumption and greed and then blames people for wanting a small part of it. You'll never see a show called "lifestyles of the poor and unknown".

I don't think that's a "Ford Nation" ideology at all. I think if you were to stereotype Ford supporters, they would say that 'children are a blessing and a miracle and finances don't matter'.
And I would roll my eyes.

Perhaps, but I talked to quite a few people who think Ford is terrific, at least until recently (they're much quieter now), but I don't know all that many who say the kids are a blessing and miracle line. Most just condemn the poor and act like it only requires pulling your bootstraps up. Some people don't have boots.

It's not that I don't agree with you in theory on the concept of having kids only when you can afford to, but my answer was that it's just not so black and white and condemning the poor - especially those who are trying hard to do better is just unfair imho.

The rockstar of tonight's debate.

Ford on expanding island airport: "Look at Europe, folks."

Hey, didn't you know that Ford is tough on crime, including all drug offences? He has been asked that before and Ford replied that he still believes that we must go hard against drug crimes, unless the person is a member of the Ford family. In that case, it's water under the bridge, so move along.

It's an easy mistake to make but Ford didn't say "I'm tough on Crime". He said "I'ma tough IN crime". It's a gangsta thing.

Heh, well I wouldn't judge someone for owning a nice TV, I would judge someone for buying one if they couldn't afford to! Like if you borrow money from your family or use government services to survive, I think you shouldn't be indulging in expensive luxuries, and children are some of the most expensive ones there are...

I'm not criticizing the poor in general. To be honest I don't even know how we got here from wherever we started. I just don't think you should have children if you can't afford them and it frustrates me that people do.
