Iola (who appears to have signed her name 'Viola' as well, hmm) thinks it wasn't fair that she was kicked out of the debate:

Why wasn't the lady referenced here holding offensive Ford pic ( by the way it wasnt me that ripped it up although it seems so)or the screaming lady constantly interupting that people complained to police about kicked out ..and plastered all over the newspapers ..why? Cause they are not Ford supporters...

The 'offensive Ford pic' was a caricature of Rob and Doug as Tweedledum and Tweedledee.

What a drag ...now tomorrow cause of police wrong doing and media s misrepresentation. I have to prove to my employer I was not "discriminating" although I did say we were proud Ford did not attend Gay Pride but did attend Jesus in the City...and i did stand up to ask how candidates will help prov govnt with violence in schools like putting God back in..? In light of fatal shooting ...and since they were discussing about youth jobs I stood up and asked ..not being given oppo...rtunity to write my question down..moment I mentioned God they wanted me out..I was not obnoxious ..rowdy..or interupting while candidates spoke ..like those near me but they got to stay cause they were not pro ford nor pro God..the police had their eyes on me from moment I entered waiting for opportunity to escort me out...I was interviewed by many yet all they put on TV is quick shot of police bullying me out...PS I'm the one that initiated youth safety on schools yet I'm depicted as the crazy one...if I was in there when Tory tried to bully Ford into saying Yes to attending Gay pride Sodom and Gomorrah parade ..I would of screamed say No to the Bully and Gay Pride say Yes to God

Was not obnoxious or rowdy, but would have screamed. Okay.

At least there won't be any more debates for her to disrupt.

On a side note, do you guys find it believable that Giroux has never even heard of Jaclyn Dawe? Before she apparently emerged in Asia they were watching the house where she was last seen and she was in a Toronto Star article related to Brazen. I know someone here emailed a couple of her friends and they said she was ok but you'd think Giroux would at least be aware of her. I've just been trying to interview him for my website on non-Ford related stuff.

I agree with a lot of this. I also agree with post you responded to. In short, there's so much to point to about where Olivia has gone wrong that we can all be right.

But I agree that the biggest mistake of all was alienating her base at the very outset. She was so sure her progressive base would stick with her no matter what that her opening gambit was 'value of a dollar' and 'low taxes'. Her campaign expected the left to see through the presentation and latch on to the goodies in her platform

Wrong. Always, always, always secure your base first. You can announce more moderate policies as the race goes on to attract a broader range of voters. Horvath made this mistake too, and look where that got her.

Which brings me to the second problem: There are not many goodies in her platform. It's thin and disjointed, and oh yeah, 'children'. Progressives wanted vision and a solid plan, she gave them milk and cookies. You're absolutely right about the appeal of Soknacki - he gave those voters what they expected from her.

So yeah, her base will probably trickle back, but it won't be with much enthusiasm I don't think.

I also think she got greedy and saw all those potential votes sitting around from people who voted for Ford last time but wouldn't be repeating their mistake. She (and Karen Stintz, as well) wanted those people on board so badly they soft-pedaled the Ford attacks (don't want to insult the people who voted for him), and played up the nonsense "respect for taxpayers" stuff. That is so NOT what anyone who dislikes Ford wanted to see, and makes no sense anyway, since anyone conservative enough to vote for Ford four years ago is never going to even consider voting for someone like Olivia Chow.

My friend who works for one of the rival campaigns suspects the Ford's pay those rowdies to show up, but it'd be too costly to do that every debate lol. When they do show up they apparently are there like an hour beforehand ready to go!

I'm guessing Doug doesn't have to pay them much. 20 bucks and a pack of black market smokes would probably do it.

Quote shortened to highlight the comment about the employer. She must work someplace that has a policy on personal conduct outside of work. Funny how some companies don't like employees that are actively engaged in hate crimes.

Good lord, she has an EMPLOYER? I'm guessing now that the police are investigating those hate letters, that's not going to last too much longer.

Easy solution to the debate issue: make them all free but hold them in churches. I doubt Ford Nation would show up to yell racist and idiotic things in the house of the lord. Therefore, Doug probably won't show up, either.

If that's true, he's not as good a cop as people say he is. It at least proves that he does not look at this board, which you'd think would be mandatory reading for anyone investigating Ford at this point.

If he's being deliberately disingenuous.....that's interesting.

I think she might actually work for the TCDSB. She ran unsuccessfully for trustee a few years ago.

"Doug Ford says from now on, he will not attend any debates "that will cost residents money to participate in"

I'm pretty sure Doug never intended to show up for this one. He's just playing the game to get better media coverage for himself and his dog whistle. As far as I can tell, Doug has no interest in winning the mayoralty. He just wants to invigorate the nation and create a kind of Fifth Column for next wave of Ford madness.

Well, her FB and LinkedIn profiles say 'Bilingual Customs Client Service/Compliance Officer at Housewife/Mother', which sounds like 'not employed outside the home'. She could be working for the school board, as I said, and there's no indication of any other breadwinner in the household (she never seems to mention a spouse/partner).

ETA: http://issuu.com/thescarboroughmirror/docs/sca_e_dec07

page 15, school trustee campaign ad: 'Employed since Aug 1986 as a Customs Bilingual Officer (Customer Service & Compliance)/part-time French tutor'

Hmm.
