SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK

Saint John is the Maritimes' industrial powerhouse. It's also a very old
city with some impressive architecture. The residential is some of the
best in Canada. The city is full of solid buildings with incredible
details and a gritty urban feel.

I didn't get to spend as much time in Saint John as I would have liked and
it was rainy and foggy, so here's a quick tour of a city that deserves a
better look.

Flar: Neat photo tour of St.John,New Brunswick here!
I noticed many buildings constructed of sturdy brick and stone and this city definitely has sort of a New England look to me...
I will note pictures here at a later date...

I noticed multiple photo tours posted from you here...again you should number these pics in these new tours if you can to make it easier for those like me to comment...
...and Ms. Flar took some good pics here also!

Thanks again - LI MIKE

Thanks a lot for this tour of a city I know nothing about. I'm very impressed with the collection of Victorian era architecture. Doesn't look particularly lively, but there's definitely potential there. I would pay a visit.

Great tour! Reminds me of Hamilton, actually ;)

Looks like a ghost town. Impressive collection of remaining Victorian buildings.

Photo #2 is fantastic.

St. John looks gorgeous, but also sadly like one of those places where they'd bulldoze a Victorian mansion to build the gravel parking lot of a minimum wage-paying call centre because "we can't let history stand in the way of jobs!"

If you told me some of those pictures were of Boston, I'd believe you. Same goes for some doubling as Toronto. Really interesting for a city of 70,000.

Ontario cities could only dream about having residential architecture like this on any scale, you could find scattered example sin Toronto and Hamilton. This tour is not nearly as comprehensive as most of my tours, there is a lot more. The details here are spectacular, particularly on the brick houses.

When visiting the Maritimes, I always find Saint John so compelling (the complete opposite of Halifax, which I find dreadfully uninteresting). Unfortunately, there just isn't much happening. I always find myself thinking what a fantastic place it would be if the economy improved.

Wow, I am blown away. I never would have imagined this city to have such an impressive collection of Victorian architecture. I kinda get the feeling that's what a lot of Front Street in the St. Lawrence area in Toronto probably looked like before the tragic blockbusting of the 60's unfortunately took place...

And what are you basing this on?
