I went to Spain in 2008 (Madrid, Toledo, Segovia) and enjoyed 3 days of blue skies, and hopes of lovely weather drew me back in 2009.

1. Surprisingly, London had a great day as well. Thanks to Ryanair, it didn't even cost 40 pounds.

2. Welcome!

3. The BBC weather forecast originally predicted thunderstorms and rain all weekend, which seemed strange for that part of Spain. I heard this city gets quite hot in the summer, reaching 40C, but September proved to be a lovely time to visit. Not a single drop of rain fell during my stay.

4. The architecture is a bit different from what you see further north.

6. The bay window is quite ornate, and with so few openings, probably works well to keep the summer heat out.

9. This is the Spain I remembered. Beautiful sunshine and nice strolls.

13. This looks like Moorish influence.

15. White covers above streets is a very common sight in the narrow city streets, and in this square as well. I guessed it was also an anti-heat measure to keep the intense summer sun off the streets, but not to the extent to let all light out.

17. This looks more like the rest of Europe.

22. Seville's historic core is quite big, and it was fun getting lost in the streets. The surprises come up randomly, which is great. I couldn't rely on the map for everything.

24. White tarp in practice.

28. I noticed the colours on the walls are also quite light, which I suppose is also for reflecting the hot summer sun.

30. Another good anti-heat measure on the windows.

37. The building top looks a bit Russian, while the blue tiles look Portuguese. I'm confused.

42. I was most impressed with the landscaping .. but all these were tucked inside homes, where courtyards had plenty of plant life.

More in the next part. The whole set is also on my website.

Seville is one of my favourite cities in Spain. It has something magical about it - unlike my town for now, Madrid.

^ Good point. I did go inside the Alcazar, and it was free that day as well. I need to go back and find where those photos went.

47. The beautiful sun never disappointed. The bright colours shone nicely against the sky.

49. I tried capturing more of these courtyards. There were lots of them, but trying to get a decent photo without forcing my way in was difficult.

56. A lot of motorcycles, but they weren't common within the narrow, cobblestone streets.

77. Despite the densely-packed buildings, the sun was able to reach the ground at certain times of the day.
