Is lighting small candles on the Christmas tree that uncommon? My family does that every year.

I never quite understood how those stand up, and don't fall over setting the tree on fire.

I thought it was a real tree like the one they put up at The Rockefeller Center every year. Didn't realize it was a fake one.
